VIQ: Services highlighted at resource fair

Article content

One of the most wonderful things about my job is I get to work with people from a variety of different backgrounds. Each year we are privileged to have Loyalist College Social Service Worker Program students come to our agency and volunteer their time and talents. This year we had a group of four students for six weeks. The ability to assist these students to learn about the community and the hundreds of programs and services offered is always rewarding to our agency. This year they were given a task to organize resource fairs in Quinte West and Centre Hastings.

This is what they had to say about the experience: “As part of our first year there is a volunteer component that is to be accomplished. We have the privilege of working with VIQ to plan and organize two resource fairs in Quinte West and in Centre Hastings. In doing this, we have been able to gain hands-on experience that we would not in the classroom. To accomplish goals, we are developing our networking skills. We’re working as a team and utilizing our different abilities. We are gaining knowledge about what steps need to be taken to put together an event.”

These resource fairs are an opportunity for individuals in the community to attend and learn more about the programs and services offered. Are you interested in obtaining information on a volunteer activity? This is a great opportunity to come out and meet the agency representatives. Are you in high school looking to complete your volunteer hours? We can help.
