A group of Loyalist students are hoping to raise funds for the Make-A-Wish Foundation next week.
Next Friday, Loyalist College’s Post-Grad Public Relation Students are hosting a “Day 4 Play” fundraiser.
Derek Holota, one of the event organizers, said the group is aiming to raise $1,500.
Make-A-Wish Foundation arranges experiences described as “wishes” to children with life-threatening medical conditions.
Holota said one of the students involved in the event has a “personal connection” to the organization.
The event is open to everyone and is taking place at Rhino Sports and Play on Sidney Street in Belleville, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, March 4.
He said admission is $20 per family which allows access to the use of Rhino’s entire facility including virtual golf, a synthetic ice rink, rock climbing wall and more. Registration is not required. The students have been collecting donation items which will be auctioned off in a silent auction.
“Children who are affected by life threatening diseases have to grow up too fast. They confront painful treatments, and much physical and emotional stress” says Luisa Sorrentino, team leader of the Day 4 Play team. “The funds raised with this event will bring smiles to local children who are going through the most difficult time in their lives and give them a chance to have fun and be children again.”
People can search for and use the hashtag A Day 4 Play (#ADay4Play) or like the Facebook page “A Day 4 Play” for more information.
Money raised at the Belleville event will be directed to the Eastern Ontario chapter of Make-A-Wish.
Along with the national office, eight regional chapters grant magical wishes to children in need from coast-to-coast. Make-A-Wish Canada is an affiliate of Make-A-Wish® International, the largest wish-granting organization in the world, making dreams and wishes come true for more than 350,000 children since 1980.
