Open House a one-stop shop

Article content

Have you ever wondered what it’s like to work as a border services officer, a fitness consultant or a police officer? Maybe you have a university degree and want to learn about pathway agreements. On Saturday, March 12 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. you can discuss your options with industry professionals at Loyalist College’s Open House.
“It’s really a one-stop shop where you can explore all of your career possibilities in one day,” said Chantal Dilts, recruitment and special events co-ordinator at Loyalist. “Any questions you have about going to college can be answered directly by an expert in each area.”
Open House features the college’s more than 60 programs, such as General Arts and Sciences, Police Foundations, Fitness and Health Promotion, and Recreation and Leisure Services. It gives guests the chance to meet with students, teachers, faculty and graduates, and explore the campus.
“What I like about my program is that it is very hands on,” said Jillian Robinson, student government president and a Fitness and Health Promotion student. “The professors are determined to help me succeed and accomplish my goals.”
There will be plenty of perks at Open House, like the chance to win a $1,000 Loyalist tuition credit. Anyone who accepts their offer of admission at Open House will be entered in a draw for a $50 bookstore gift certificate. For those who are new to Belleville and want to see local sites and attractions, bus tours will be available.
The college has a wide variety of recreational programs, a full fitness centre, sports events and a host of other on-campus activities throughout the year.
“Loyalist has a small college atmosphere,” said Robinson. “When you walk through the halls every day you can’t go five minutes without seeing someone you know. And there’s always something happening on campus, whether it’s universal break or a varsity basketball game in the gym. Loyalist gives students a chance to be involved in new activities and to meet people they may otherwise not meet.”
Universal break takes place every Wednesday at noon and features live performances, guest speakers and the occasional obstacle course or fashion show.
Each year, the college provides more than $1-million in funding to students through bursaries and scholarships and on-campus employment. The college’s Career Centre helps students and graduates develop their resumés, and assists with preparation for interviews and their search for employment.
Whether you’re determined to become a corrections officer or a personal trainer, attend Loyalist’s Open House on Saturday, March 12 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to discover how we put you to work.
