Craig Beauchemin is the new voice of the Penticton Vees.
Beauchemin was hired to replace Fraser Rodgers, who stepped down from his position as director of broadcasting and communications.
“I’m incredibly excited to be given this opportunity with an organization like the Vees,” Beauchemin in a team statement. “The history, professionalism and culture of this team make it a very attractive place to be. I’ve seen first hand how Vees fans support this team and I can’t wait for the season to get underway and to be a part of it.”
Beauchemin joins the Vees after spending last season calling games in the B.C. Hockey League with the Powell River Kings and before that the Battlefords North Stars in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League.
Harbinson said that Beauchemin has a great voice for the game.
“Craig is enthusiastic and brings great energy to his broadcasts. I think our fans will really enjoy his call and we’re excited for the next chapter of Vees hockey on EZ Rock,” said Vees coach-general manager Fred Harbinson.
Harbinson added that Beauchemin will fit in well with their staff. Harbinson said in his time with the organization and before, they have had Dan Marshall, who he said is one of the best in the BCHL, then Ryan Pinder, who now works for SportsNet radio in Calgary then Rodgers.
“You look at our radio guys, our fans have been really spoiled,” said Harbinson.
Beauchemin, a graduate of Loyalist College in Belleville, Ont., can be heard on EZ Rock Penticton throughout the season, and will be moving to Penticton in time for training camp in August.
