Loyalist Vans
I remember driving the old Loyalist vans to placements in Kingston in the dead of winter. I drove and our van was full of classmates. It was bitterly cold and the heaters didn’t work very well. We would leave the College at 5 am to arrive on time at Ongwanada. Everyone complained that it was so early and that they wanted to sleep. Every time they had just fallen asleep, I would open all of the windows to allow the blast of cold air to wake them up. They would all start yelling at me, so I would roll up the windows and wait for them to fall asleep again and then repeat the process, all the way to Kingston!

I also remember the teachers we had. They were amazingly supportive and pushed us to always think beyond what we saw. Shirley Hicks was one of my favourites; her laugh and great sense of adventure allowed us to take our clients on a camping trip to Sandbanks. What a great time we had and so did our clients!

Happy anniversary, Loyalist! Happy to say that I graduated in ’87 and have kept some of the friendships I made in the ECE program to this day. Not only a great education, but full-time employment upon graduation and lifetime friends! Thanks for providing me with all of that!

Personal

I was born in Belleville in 1965 and lived in Foxboro until 1992. I married Rhonda Young in 1992, 25 years ago this September, and our daughter was born in 1993. In 2015, at the age of 49, I was struck down by a rare form of prostate cancer. The new meds available worked for a time, and I am now trying a new Radium 223 treatment in Kingston. After the treatment is over, I have been approved for one more pill treatment and am currently involved with Hospice Quinte as a client. Living day by day now fighting cancer. The love of friends and family does help.

ECE Grads of 87!

Not the best group photo I could find, but this was an amazing group of ladies with a strong passion to educate young minds! Our lives have gone in many directions but the memories and the work we do live on!
