My Greatest Accomplishment
I was born and raised in Toronto, ON, where I lived until I was 25 years old, at which time I had the privilege of moving to the Caribbean. Over the next 5+ years, I enjoyed living in both Jamaica and Barbados. In 2013, my husband and I decided that it was time to return to Canada, with plans of growing our family and fulfilling my wish to return to school. After a great deal of research, I decided that Loyalist College was my first and only choice of schools. In September, I started the Social Service Worker program at Loyalist and was ecstatic to find out in October that I was expecting not one, but two babies!

Having successfully completed my first year of the Social Service Worker program with the support of my husband and the wonderful staff at Loyalist, we welcomed our tiny twins into the world in May of 2014. After enjoying the summer at home with our babies, I was determined to return to school and complete this chapter of my education, which I did. In June 2015, I walked across the stage at convocation with my husband and one-year-old twins in the audience, knowing that I would never have been able to accomplish this without the support of the wonderful staff at Loyalist.

During my time at Loyalist College, I met many amazing friends and it quickly became a second home to our little family. The babies quickly became VIP visitors in the Kente building, with no visit ever being complete without a stop in the Career Centre to visit with the amazing staff who always welcomed us with open arms.

After completing the Social Service Worker program, I decided to continue my education and enrolled in the post-grad Public Relations program. My time in the PR program was truly enjoyed. I will always look back on my time at Loyalist as a wonderful experience; it was far from the “normal” college experience, but it was a fabulous three years!!

I met a lot of amazing people from 2013 to 2015, when I graduated. I have learned a lot about people and had the amazing experience of learning about their backgrounds and being a part of new memories. We have lost classmates through the years, but have gained new lifelong friends. I am proud to be a part of this family (both my graduating class and Loyalist College). Happy 50th birthday, Loyalist!
