The Loyalist Alumni Distinction Awards were created to honour the contributions Loyalist College graduates make to society through career success and volunteer work.

Scott Simms
Broadcast Journalism 1993

With an early interest in politics, Scott easily made the transition from top-rated T.V. weather presenter to Member of Parliament: Bonavista – Gander – Grand Falls – Windsor, Newfoundland & Labrador. Re-elected for the second time, Scott continues to represent his constituents while serving on a number of parliamentary committees. Scott recognizes the value of his training and experiences at Loyalist College when fulfilling his duties as a Member of Parliament. The skills he developed at Loyalist allow him to maintain positive communication with his constituents.

Wayne Long
Recreation and Leisure Services 1995
Upon graduating from Loyalist College, Wayne began his career with the City of Charlottetown and through various positions, has had tremendous success in developing tourism and economic growth for the City. Currently, as Events Development Officer, Wayne continues to position the City as a destination for sporting and cultural events. Wayne continues to take the lessons he learned while at Loyalist College and apply them in creative and innovative ways. He credits the forward thinking of Loyalist’s faculty for allowing him to build a solid foundation for success.

Charles Beale
Communication Arts 1970
Charles’ passion for writing was evident during his time at Loyalist, as one of the first school paper editors. Charles led a successful career as a teacher, teaching consultant and vice-principal. In retirement, Charles returned to his passion for writing and has had continued success, having published his first book this year. Charles noticed the influence of his time at Loyalist College, years after having graduated, when he got back to his writing roots. He noted that in publishing his first book, there could not have been a better illustration of the power of a community college education. Manly Edward MacDonald – Interpreter of Old Ontario was published in September 2010.
