Carving
NEW Basic Wood Carving
Wood carving is an intriguing and exciting class where students begin with a wooden blank and following a chosen pattern, leave with a finished carving. Safety techniques, how to read your wood, and design tricks are all part of the instruction. If you are an Intermediate carver you will continue with your learning as Duncan takes you to the next level of difficulty. Students are asked to bring their own knives and safety gloves. Those without can purchase Kevlar gloves and carving knives from the instructor (a onetime purchase and cost aprrox. $50.00). Wood is approx. $12.00 to $15.00 extra and payable to the instructor. Palliative Care Certificate - Offered Online - Pending Ministry Approval
Develop knowledge, skills and attitudes required to be involved with caring for the terminally ill and their families. This program benefits: RPNs, orderlies, PSWs, volunteers and clergy. With an emphasis on quality of remaining life, learn to provide empathetic and sensitive care, review the concepts of Palliative Care, hospice and home care vs. institutional care and more.

NOTE: It is mandatory that Orientation to Palliative Care be the initial course taken in this certificate for those without a health care background.
The Personal Support Worker program is designed to provide students with the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to provide personal care and home management services to clients in both community and institutional settings. Students provide supportive care to clients who are experiencing physical, cognitive, emotional and behavioural challenges.
This three-semester program is designed to meet the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities' new program standards for Personal Support Workers. Students will complete 704 hours of instruction including theory, laboratory practice and placement. This program provides supervised placement, followed by a consolidation placement in a nursing home and in-home agency.
A minimum passing grade of 65% must be obtained in each course and successful completion of First Aid/CPR Level 'C' to recieve this diploma.

Chainsaw Certificate - Professional Logger or Non-Logging
Successful students receive a professional chainsaw certificate as a logger or non-logger. Day One: Bring your chainsaw (empty the fuel tank). Day Two: you MUST have safety boots, chainsaw pants/chaps, hard hat, ear and eye protection and leather gloves. Students without these items will not be allowed to participate and will not receive a certificate. Please bring $25.00 for Non-logging Chainsaw Certificate or $45.00 for the Loggers Chainsaw Certificate. These payments are to made to the Instructor.
