Architectural Tech Students Invite the Public to a Project Showcase

April 17, 2013

Students from the first, second and third years of the Architectural Technician/Technology program at Loyalist College invite the public to attend a showcase of their final projects beginning on Thursday, April 18th at the College. The highlight of this display is the final presentation of the students’ CORE Project, which is a culminating design project for third-year Architectural Technology students. This year, the CORE Project was to create a multi-functional recreational complex that includes a swimming pool and gymnasium. Students were given a series of actual sites within the area to choose from, and then asked to develop their own functional analysis for the project, leading into the building, landscape, interior and structural design of the complex. The student projects will remain on display in the Link Lounge Gallery until the Spring Open House on April 20th.

“Perhaps the most important aspect of the Architectural programs at Loyalist is the amount of face time our students receive with the faculty,” said Program Coordinator and Professor Chuck Barsony. “We are also current in the various technologies that we use and deliver from a building technology and design standpoint, integrating all of the most up-to-date software as part of the design and drafting process. These technologies allow us to provide students with an excellent background in numerous aspects of the design and construction industry, which visitors will recognize when they see the quality of work our students produce. We want our students to realize that every design situation is unique, so that they understand the process associated with analyzing the criteria for the design, and how it will all pan out.”
