LOYALIST COLLEGE ANNOUNCES GUEST SPEAKERS FOR THE 50TH ANNIVERSARY CONVOCATION CEREMONIES

Belleville, Ontario, June 6, 2017 – Loyalist College is pleased to announce the speakers for its special 50th Anniversary Convocation ceremonies on Thursday, June 8 and Friday, June 9. The four ceremonies recognize new graduates and celebrate their accomplishments with family and friends.

Thursday, June 8

10 am: School of Health, Human and Justice Studies

Guest Speaker – Marc Crawford   
Belleville native Marc Crawford is a professional hockey player and coach. In May 2016, he was hired as an associate coach for the Ottawa Senators. Prior to joining the Senators, he spent four seasons coaching the Swiss National League A’s ZSC Lions. Early in his hockey career, Mr. Crawford played Tier II hockey for the Belleville Bobcats and for the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League’s Cornwall Royals. Throughout his eight-year career as a professional hockey player in the International, American, National and Canadian Hockey Leagues, and 15 years as a coach in the National Hockey League, Mr. Crawford has received many awards. In his first year as coach with the Quebec Nordiques (1994-95), Mr. Crawford won the Jack Adams Award as the National Hockey League Coach of the Year. An Ontario College Business graduate, Mr. Crawford’s coaching career includes a Stanley Cup win with the Colorado Avalanche (1996). At the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano, Japan, he was the head coach of Team Canada’s Men’s National Ice Hockey Team.

2:30 pm: School of Applied Sciences, Skills and Technology

Guest Speaker – Colonel Colin Keiver      
Colonel Keiver was born and raised on a farm in Alberta where his love of aviation emerged early. As an air cadet, he was awarded Glider Pilot wings at the age of 16 and in 1994, was awarded Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) pilots wings. His flying tours include six years at 435 Transport and Rescue Squadron in Winnipeg and three years on exchange with the United States Marine Corps Air Station in Cherry Point, North Carolina where he was involved in both counter-terrorism operations and the introduction of the Lockheed Martin C-130J Super Hercules to the United States Marine Corps. As Commanding Officer of 436 Transport Squadron, he introduced the C-130J into RCAF service while concurrently supporting operations in Afghanistan and Libya. As a staff officer, he has served in 1 Canadian Air Division Headquarters where he was involved in the RCAF transition to the C-17 Globemaster III and C-130J. On promotion to Colonel, he was appointed Director Air Simulation and Training in Ottawa where he was responsible for all contracted training within the RCAF as well as the development of the RCAF Simulation Strategy. He has logged almost 5,000 hours of RCAF flight time in his career. Colonel Keiver was the 27th Commanding Officer of 436 Transport Squadron from 2010 to 2012 and in 2015 was appointed the 49th Commander of 8 Wing Trenton, the largest base in the RCAF. He holds a BA degree in Political Science, a Masters in Defence Studies and is a graduate of the Royal College of Defence Studies in London, UK.

Friday, June 9

10 am: School of Applied Sciences, Skills and Technology and the School of Business

Guest Speaker –  Rob Huddleston         
As Manager of Human Resources for Foot Locker Canada, Rob Huddleston supports operations across various divisions, working with regional directors, direct sales managers and managers on new initiatives and training, as well as elevating the hiring skills of line leaders on a national level. Mr. Huddleston joined Foot Locker Corporation in 2010 as a Sales Associate in Ottawa, and has held progressively senior positions, including Manager, General Manager and Manager Trainer. He has played a pivotal role in launching new banner initiatives from the United States including House of Hoops, Footaction and the new Jumpman store on Yonge Street in Toronto. As a result, he received the 2014 and 2016 Leadership Awards from Foot Locker in recognition of his ability to drive results and mentor new leaders. A Loyalist graduate, Mr. Huddleston earned a Business diploma in 2009 and a Business Administration and Human Resources Management diploma in 2010. In 2015, Mr. Huddleston was nominated for a Colleges Ontario Premier’s Award in the Business category. He is currently working towards a Bachelor of Management degree through Athabasca University.

2:30 pm: School of Media, Arts + Design and School of Continuing Education

Guest Speaker – Paul Ferguson  
Cobourg native Paul Ferguson is a three-time consecutive winner of the Canadian Country Music Association’s Music Director of the Year (Medium or Small Market) Award. He was most recently presented the Award in September 2016. Mr. Ferguson is a 1995 Loyalist Radio Broadcasting graduate and the Program Director at Belleville’s country music station Cool 100.1 FM and 95.5 Hits FM. Mr. Ferguson was elected to the Board of Directors of the Canadian Country Music Association in September 2016 and is a member of the Board of Directors for the Trenton Memorial Hospital Foundation. He supports Loyalist and its students as a member of the Radio Broadcasting Program Advisory Committee and recently participated in a special event on campus celebrating the 25th anniversary of the program.
