Loyalist College Awards Contract for Skills Centre Project

November 26, 2009

Loyalist College has announced that the Design Build contract for the Sustainable Skills, Technology and Life Sciences Centre has been awarded to Ball Construction Ltd.  Robertson Simmons architects inc. will provide architectural design services. Site preparation will commence in December, with construction underway in January 2010.

The project will be funded by the Government of Canada’s Knowledge Infrastructure Program and through the Ontario Government’s 2009 Budget. The $16.6 million funding, provided equally by the Federal and Provincial Governments, was announced in May.

“We are very excited about this project, which represents a significant campus renewal for the College,” said Loyalist President Maureen Piercy.  “The Centre will provide flexible space to accommodate a number of programs, including: Electrical Robotics/Flexible manufacturing training; Multi-modal Transportation Technologies and Maintenance; Power, Manufacturing and Processing; Architecture, Building Sciences and Construction / LEED Building Technology; as well as Biotechnology and Environmental Sciences (Biofoods and Biofuels).”

“It is a sustainable project and will incorporate as much green technology as possible in order to attain LEED certification (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design),” said President Piercy.

The project is scheduled for completion in December 2010.  Regular updates regarding the construction will be provided on the College’s website.
