Loyalist College Board of Governors Welcomes New Members

Belleville, Ontario, September 11, 2014 – At the September 11th meeting of the Loyalist College Board of Governors, Chair Brian Smith introduced new Governors Sara Kelleher and Bhavik Patel.

Sara Kelleher has been elected as the Support Staff representative on the Board, and will serve as a member of the Academic, Student Affairs and Advocacy Committee for the 2014-2015 year. Ms. Kelleher is an OntarioLearn Technician in the School of Continuing Education. She graduated from the Radio Broadcasting program at Loyalist in 1999, and returned in 2007 to complete the three-year Business Administration Diploma program as well as the Human Resources Management Certificate program. Ms. Kelleher is the Support Staff Secretary for the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU) Local 421 and a member of College Council. She has been affiliated with Loyalist’s School of Distance Studies & Continuing Education since 2008, and has held a variety of roles, including OntarioLearn Exam Specialist and Health Studies and Developmental Services Worker Clerk, Off-Campus Coordinator and Information Specialist.

Bhavik Patel has been elected as the Faculty representative on the Board, and will serve as a member of the Academic, Student Affairs and Advocacy Committee in the coming year. He graduated in 2001 from Ryerson Polytechnic University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing.  In 2013, he joined the College’s School of Health, Human and Justice Studies as a professor in the Practical Nursing program. Professor Patel is an active member of the Loyalist community, participating in program advisory committee meetings and weekly professional development workshops through the Office of Teaching and Learning. He is also a member of Loyalist’s Orientation Committee. His previous experience includes teaching at Humber College and working at St. Joseph’s Health Centre as Team Leader for Child and Adolescent Mental Health. He also worked at Humber River Regional Hospital in Child and Adolescent Mental Health and Rouge Valley Health System in Child and Adolescent Mental Health. He is a member of the College of Nurses of Ontario Pediatric Mental Health Advisory Group.

At the meeting, Chair Brian Smith also recognized the services and commitment of retiring Governors Stuart Wright, Pat Dockrill, Colin Hughes, Tony Orrick, and Elizabeth Kryschuk. The Board of Governors includes 12 community members, the College President & CEO, and four elected members representing the students, faculty, support staff and administration of the College.
