Loyalist College Board of Governors welcomes new members

Belleville, Ontario, September 10, 2015 — At the September 10 meeting of the Loyalist College Board of Governors, Chair June Hagerman introduced new Governors David Allen, Tim Farrell, Robert Forder, Michael O’Keeffe and Jason Tremblay.

David Allen was appointed to the Board in 2015.  For the 2015-2016 term, Mr. Allen will serve on the Academic, Student Affairs and Advocacy Committee. Mr. Allen has served the YMCA organization for 30 years beginning in Peterborough and Ottawa. In 1997 he was appointed Chief Executive Officer in Sault Ste. Marie, followed by Regional Director in Belleville and Quinte, served as the Interim Chief Executive Officer in Brockville and now in his current role as the Vice President of Operations, YMCA of Central East Ontario. Mr. Allen has significant board experience as a Board of Directors provides governance at each YMCA facility. Mr. Allen graduated from Algonquin College in 1985 with a Recreation and Facilities Management diploma and in 1995, completed the Management, Leadership and Decision Making program through the University of Ottawa. He has also completed numerous work-related training and development courses since then. Mr. Allen has strong affiliations with many community groups but may be best known as the Chair for two very successful United Way campaigns in the Quinte area – 2011 and 2012.  He is a member of the Loyalist College Recreation and Leisure Services/Fitness and Health Promotion programs Advisory Committee. 

Tim Farrell will serve as a member of the Finance, Corporate Services and Governance Committee, as well as the Audit Committee. Mr. Farrell has been employed by the Royal Bank as an Investment and Retirement Planner since 2005.  Prior to arriving at RBC, Mr. Farrell worked as a Financial Advisor with CIBC Imperial Service in Kingston and Toronto.  In 2002 he became licensed as a Certified Financial Planner. Mr. Farrell graduated from the University of Western Ontario in 1996 with a Bachelor of Arts and an Honours Specialization in Sociology degree, and completed the Human Resource Management post-diploma program at Seneca College in 1998. Support of community and volunteerism are important to Mr. Farrell.  He currently serves as Vice President of the Belleville and District Chamber of Commerce, is a Board member of the Belleville Sales and Advertising Club, served on the Special Events Committee of the Belleville Downtown Improvement Association and was a member of the Festival of Trees Gala Committee.  Mr. Farrell is in line to be the President of the Belleville Chamber of Commerce in 2016.

Robert Forder will serve on the Finance, Corporate Services and Governance Committee. He is the Manager of Buildings and Facilities for the City of Quinte West, a position he has held since 2013. Previously, Mr. Forder was the Lean Coordinator at Kennametal Stellite, formerly Deloro Stellite Inc., for six years. He also worked for two decades at Linamar Corporation where his responsibilities included management of IT systems, production, maintenance and lean manufacturing. He is a member of the Manufacturing Engineering Technician, Mechanical Techniques, and Welding Techniques advisory committees at Loyalist. He graduated with Honours from the College in 1988 with a Data Processing Diploma (IT Designation). He is Past Chair and current steering committee member of the Quinte Manufacturers Association, and Past Director of the Belleville Chamber of Commerce, representing Industry. Mr. Forder has held many positions in manufacturing and supports the community through volunteering. In 2012, he was a Premier’s Award nominee for Colleges Ontario’s outstanding college graduates.

Michael O’Keeffe will serve as a member of the Finance, Corporate Services and Governance Committee. Mr. O’Keeffe is the Administrator at AON Inc. – Centennial Place in Millbrook and Moira Place in Tweed – a role he has held for the past eight years. Throughout his extensive 25-year career in long-term care, he has worked in management and administrative positions in retirement homes, multi-level retirement communities and long-term care homes. Mr. O’Keeffe graduated from Ryerson Polytechnic University’s Long Term Care Administration program in 1999, and has completed a number of general interest courses at Mohawk College. He has gained extensive Board experience through his five-year involvement with the Gateway Community Health Board Centre in Tweed where he served as the Board’s Vice Chair and Treasurer. Mr. O’Keeffe also served as a Board member and Chair of Bruce Grey & Huron Disability Transportation Corporation, a non-profit organization that provides para-transit services in the Bruce, Grey & Huron region.

Jason Tremblay was elected by Loyalist students to serve on the Board for the 2015-2016 year. He will serve as a member of the Academic, Student Affairs and Advocacy Committee. Mr. Tremblay, who grew up in Quebec, is fluent in both official languages and is currently completing the second year of the Business Administration program at Loyalist. He worked for Stream Global Services from 2012 to 2014 and in the summer of 2015, began an internship with the Royal Bank of Canada where his bilingual skills were utilized to provide banking services to clients.  

At the meeting, Chair June Hagerman also recognized the services and commitment of retiring Governors Brian Smith, Tamara Kleinschmidt, Scott Williams, Bruce McLeod and Jean-David Tremblay. The Board of Governors includes 12 community members, the College President & CEO, and four elected members representing students, faculty, support staff and administration of the College.
