Loyalist College Open Houses – Be Part of the Loyalist Experience

October 10, 2014

As the Fall leaves turn and students begin to contemplate the next steps in their educational journey, the community will have three opportunities to explore what Loyalist College has to offer.

The main campus in Belleville is preparing to welcome visitors to its Open Houses on Thursday, October 16 from 9 am to noon, and again on Saturday, November 15 from 10 am to 2 pm.  The Bancroft campus will host an Open House on October 23 from 2 to 6 pm. The events are free and open to everyone.

“Growing numbers of students are choosing market-driven College programs as their path to a rewarding career,” said Loyalist College President and CEO Maureen Piercy. “We encourage everyone to come experience Loyalist for themselves and feel the difference of learning in a close-knit College community.”

Faculty, staff and students will be at the Open Houses to answer questions about experiential learning and explain the wide range of student success services and extra-curricular activities available. The events are geared to both high school students and mature learners considering a return to school. Visitors can explore their career goals, learn what steps they can take to reach them, and discover opportunities they may not even realize exist. Loyalist offers 65 full-time programs; apprenticeships; and more than 500 online, distance and in-class courses, as well as opportunities for continuing education through more than 70 university transfer agreements.

Visitors to the Belleville campus will be able to take a tour of the state-of-the-art Digital Media Centre, the Sustainable Skills, Technology and Life Sciences Centre, and the College Residence facilities. Attendees will have an opportunity to enter a draw for $2,000 towards their tuition.

An added feature of the October 16 Open House is the College Information Program (CIP). The annual CIP tour visits all regions of the province, including the Ontario College Information Fair at the Canadian National Exhibition in Toronto on October 20 and 21. This is an outstanding opportunity here in Belleville to learn about more than 600 college programs available across Ontario, and get answers to questions about student housing, campus life and financial options.

“In this new economy, it is more important than ever to ensure that students are aware of the full range of post-secondary options available to them,” added President Piercy. “The College Information Program is an excellent opportunity to provide students with everything they need to know about a college education. So stop by the Open Houses, take a tour and ask lots of questions.”
