Loyalist College Public Relations Post-Grad Students to Host Free Media Workshop Series for Local Non-Profit Organizations

January 19, 2015

The post-graduate Public Relations students at Loyalist College will host a series of free media workshops for local non-profit organizations on Monday, March 9 and Thursday, March 12.  Designed to help local agencies build their brands, the hour-long sessions will educate participants on new and emerging digital marketing tools, including mobile fundraising, online surveys, crowdfunding, Storify, Pinterest, and Prezi.

“We’ve held this community workshop series several times in the past with excellent feedback from participants,” said Professor Kerry Ramsay, Coordinator of the post-graduate Public Relations program. “For small communication teams, this event provides a valuable connection to peers in the field and an opportunity to explore the latest multimedia and multiplatform communications. The networking aspect of the community workshop series is really appreciated by non-profit agencies.”

Any non-profit agency interested in participating in the upcoming media workshop series can reserve a spot for one or more sessions. For a full schedule of sessions and to register, please email loyalistpr@loyalistc.on.ca.

About the post-graduate Public Relations program

Public relations professionals are increasingly in demand as employers recognize the value of effective messaging. Loyalist College’s intensive eight-month post-graduate program trains professional communicators to meet the demands of an ever-changing global environment.  Students in the program enjoy a combination of project-based learning and hands-on experience that goes beyond the classroom. They plan and host special events such as concerts and wine tastings in Prince Edward County, meet with industry professionals and PR agencies in Toronto, stage a mock disaster during Crisis Communications Week and participate in a speed networking event. Students develop a solid portfolio of relevant workplace skills and finish their studies with a four-week field placement, applying their learning on the job. Graduates find dynamic opportunities working for government, hospitals, schools, businesses, advocacy groups and non-governmental organizations (NGOs), as well as public relations firms.
