September Starts Available at Loyalist College

August 12, 2010

The opportunity to register and begin classes at Loyalist College in September is still an option. Whether you are interested in preparing for a career change, career advancement, or entering the post-secondary environment for the first time, there is no need to let a semester or year pass by. Spaces are still available in some programs and applications continue to be accepted at www.ontariocolleges.ca.

Included in the programs accepting applicants are Radio Broadcasting, Business and Electrical. The two-year Radio Broadcasting diploma program has been developed in close cooperation with broadcasters from across the country to prepare graduates to work behind the scenes and in front of the mic. Graduates are trained in all aspects of radio broadcasting and work as announcers, producers, copywriters, sales and promotional personnel, sportscasters, and radio web managers. Loyalist has its own alternative format radio station 91X, enabling students to gain on-air and behind-the-scenes experience. Jobs for trained professionals are plentiful, particularly for graduates who are willing to relocate.

Two-year diploma, three-year advanced, and numerous Loyalist and university transfer agreements make choosing to study business at Loyalist an exciting beginning to a world of career choices. The Business program is noted for its individual and team projects in conjunction with local businesses. Students graduate with work experience on their résumés and valuable connections to potential employers. Those who decide to remain for the third year of study have a choice of pursuing the advanced diploma in Business Administration – Human Resource Management or Materials Management.

The one-year Electrical Techniques certificate and two-year Electrical Engineering Technician – Industrial diploma programs will be held in the newly renovated Loyalist facilities. The strong emphasis on hands-on learning prepares graduates to choose from a wide range of career path options. Employers looking for electrical apprentices find that the graduates of the electrical programs have valuable skills which prepare the graduates to learn and grow while on the job. Loyalist’s new Sustainable Skills, Technology and Life Sciences Centre which is scheduled for completion in December 2010 will have a profound role in the skills training and education in the region. It will provide a hub for programs and curriculum development for the skills area and the jobs which are so important to the prosperity of our province and country.

“Individuals are sometimes hesitant to contact the College at this time, assuming they will be unable to enroll for September,” said Jeff Macnab, Registrar. “Although we do have waiting lists for some programs there are openings in others. Rather than putting your career plans on hold, we encourage you to call or visit the campus and we’ll help you put things in place for a September entry.”
