At the Loyalist College Board of Governors meeting on Thursday, November 13, Tina Doucet, Branch Manager Bancroft, Kawartha Credit Union, presented a cheque for $5,000 to Loyalist College for its Endowment Fund. Kawartha Credit Union has been supporting College students with annual donations since 2009. It provides financial support to students registered in a program of study at Loyalist College’s Bancroft campus who have proven financial need. Preference is given to students in one of the Health Science programs offered there: Paramedic, Practical Nursing and Personal Support Worker. This year’s recipient is Brandy Wilcox, a student in the Personal Support Worker program.
The Chester Schwandt Bursary was also presented at the meeting to Jenna Scott, Personal Support Worker student from the Bancroft campus. Established in 1991 by Mr. Schwandt, the bursary provides financial assistance to students from North Hastings who are attending Loyalist College. It recognizes deserving students from the Bancroft/Haliburton area for academic proficiency in secondary school. The following individuals also received the Chester Schwandt Bursary during the Undergraduate Awards Ceremony on November 6 at the Belleville campus:
- Abbie Boor, Social Service Worker – Year 1
- Dylan McMurray, Civil Engineering Technician – Year 1
- Ashley Parks, Practical Nursing – Year 1
- Stephanie Wannamaker, Esthetics and Spa Management – Year 1
The Town of Bancroft Bursary was established by the municipality in 1991 to provide financial assistance to students from the Town of Bancroft who are attending post-secondary studies at Loyalist College. Mayor Bernice Jenkins presented the award to Brianna McHale, a Personal Support Worker student studying at the Bancroft campus.
