General Arts and Science,
Pre-Technology Preparation
One-Year Certitificate
High school graduates and mature students returning to school may have difficulty gaining admission to college technology programs. The General Arts and Science, Pre-Technology Preparation program allows students to prepare for the academic demands of specific technology programs, while completing courses required for admission. Some credits earned may be transferred to technology programs at Loyalist. The curriculum provides a solid foundation in mathematics, computer and essential communication skills. Students ave the opportunity to choose electives that align with their interests. All course work can be applied toward the elective requirements of a two-year diploma in General Arts and Science.
International Support Worker
One-Year Post-Graduate Certificate
The International Support Worker (ISW) program prepares graduates to work in a wide variety of international development organizations. Semester one includes group and seminar work focused on problem-solving simulations related to international development strategies used at local, regional, national and international levels. During the second semester students gain hands-on experience through a three-week international placement – entering into dialogue with citizens living in difficult circumstances and with a wide range of development practitioners. Students practice critical and analytical skills in problem-solving, live safely in rural and urban situations and evaluate various development options. Upon returning to Canada, students engage in reflective, team-based learning experiences, focusing on the development and implementation of a project – connecting theory and experiential knowledge to inform their work.
