Don't get behind in your studies - a Peer Tutor may be able to help you get over a rough spot! The Peer Tutoring Program is designed to allow academically successful second and third year students to assist other students with their studies. The tutors must have a minimum GPA of 70%. Application forms to be a tutor or to receive tutoring are available in the Learning Enhancement and Resource Network (LEARN), Room 2H4b, on the Upper Mezzanine above SAL.
Five Steps to Success using Peer Tutoring:
- Contact your professor if you are having academic difficulties. Ask for assistance in determining your specific areas of weakness.
- Apply for tutoring help early in the semester. Students who wait to access this service may have difficulty catching up.
- Attend classes regularly and take thorough notes. Tutoring cannot help students who do not attend classes. In addition, you may wish to speak with a counsellor about time management and study skills.
- Don’t miss your tutoring appointments. If you are unable to attend an appointment or are going to be late, contact the tutor ahead of time.
- You cannot approach a tutor to ask for specific information regarding tests and examinations that they may have previously written.
How Peer Tutoring Works:
The student in need is interviewed and is provided with the name and phone number of a student tutor who will provide time and study assistance. The student then contacts the tutor and arranges a day and time to meet.
