The Athletic Department used this week’s back to back double header nights to promote Breast Cancer Awareness to their athletes and fans. Both the Basketball and Volleyball teams donned their pink t-shirts for warm up. The coaching staff and all minor officials wore pink on these nights as well. Fans were also encouraged to wear pink to help support this very worthy cause. Money jars were passed around on both nights with several hundred dollars being collected. Andrée Mathurin-Scott was on hand to help out with the festivities. Andrée who works at the College is a breast cancer survivor and is a close friend and great supporter of the Athletic Department and its teams. She used a pink basketball for the ceremonial tip off on Tuesday night and a pink volleyball on Wednesday night for the ceremonial first serve.
Despite great fan support and excellent efforts by the Lancers both Basketball teams dropped their games to the visiting George Brown Huskies. The Women were led by third year forward Brittany Denneny who had 9 points and Katie Ballantyne chipped in with 8 points. The Team trailed by just 2 points at the half against the number two ranked team in the OCAA but struggled offensively in the second half scoring only 10 points. The final score was George Brown 45 Loyalist 29. The Ladies are now 1-2 in league play.

In the second game of the evening the Lancer Men came out playing their best basketball of the young season. Their offense was clicking on all cylinders as they went to the locker room at the half with a 7 point lead. Their lead got as high as 14 points before the full court pressure of the Huskies forced several turnovers and allowed George Brown to tie the score at 59’s at the end of regulation time. Overtime saw George Brown continue their hot shooting and pressure defense. They outscored the Lancers 20-10 in OT to escape with a 79-69 victory. The Lancers fall to 0-3 in league play. Veteran Trevor Mayer had an outstanding game for the Lancers scoring 15 points and adding 8 rebounds. Freshmen guard Damone Donaldson had another strong game with 13 points before fouling out late in the game. The team is now 0-3 in league play.

The volleyball teams fared much better as they swept the visiting Trent Excalibur in fine fashion. The Women made quick work of Trent by winning 3 games to 0 with dominating offense and defense. Scores were 25-13, 25-15, 25-16. Once again Joanne Laton and Rebecca Ramsay were the top point getters with 9 points of total offense each. Ramsay also had 8 kills on the night while Katlin Gagnon displayed her usual defensive tenacity and had a game high 7 digs. The team now sits in 3rd place in the very competitive East region with a 4-2 record.
A very boisterous crowd was on hand for the Men’s action which seemed to pay dividends for the Lancers. Loyalist completely dominated the first game by trouncing Trent by a score of 25-12. It appeared another 3 game sweep was in the cards for the Lancers but Trent managed to steal the second game of the night by a score of 25-18. Coach Templar was able to settle his team down and they went on to win the next two games to take the match 3-1. With the win the Lancers now have an impressive 4-1 record in league play. Kyle Donnan, Matt Woods and Greg Gillespie all had big offensive nights with 21, 17, 13 total offensive points respectively. Luke Leoen got the job done on the defensive end of things with a game high 8 digs.
