The rugby teams gathered after their games Saturday, Oct. 30 for a Cancer fundraiser. A spaghetti dinner was had by all in support of Andrée Mathurin. She was presented with a signed game ball.
The Lancer’s continued to defend their title as Division 2 Champions this weekend with a 48-7 victory over Fleming (L). Thanks to excellent recruiting done by the coaches, this year’s team is stronger than ever. Rookie player Jesse Jones
has already begun to prove his worth scoring 2 tries in the win over Fleming and 3 tries in last week’s win over RMC. Along with Jones, Devon Metzger, Luke Shillington, Ferrando Palacious, and Brian Cole all scored tries against Fleming to push the Lancers to victory. The Lancers travel to Barrie to face off against the team they defeated to win their 2009Championship title Saturday September 25 when they take on the Georgian Grizzlies.

The Loyalist Lancers Men’s Rugby teamed capped off a perfect season on Wednesday, November 4th by capturing the OCAA Division 2 Championship on their home field. In front of a huge crowd, the Lancers controlled the game from the opening
kick. Just a few minutes in Lancer Corey Black scored the game’s first try followed by three more tries before the first half ended. Chad Baerwinkel, Nick Imrie and Seam McMurtry scored the other tries for Loyalist. Justin Voskamp added two converts to push the half time lead to 24-0. The big lead gave the Lancer coaching staff a chance to use their bench. Rookie Shane Christie scored the team’s last try. Late in the game Georgian was finally able to penetrate the stingy Lancer defense for their only score on the day. Final score was Loyalist 29 Georgian 5.
Ryan Fergusson of the Lancers was named the “Man of the Match”. Fergusson had an outstanding game which included blocking three Grizzlies kicks. Two of the blocks led to Lancers tries. In addition to collecting their Gold Medals and the Championship trophy the Lancers received the League regular season trophy for their perfect 6-0 record. Several players were also recognized with individual awards. Chad Baerwinkel and Nick Imrie were named OCAA League All Stars. Justin Voskamp won the Division 2 scoring title. Eric Early was named Rookie of the Year and second year standout Sean
McMurtry was honored with the Player of the Year award. Coaches Larry Cook, Rob Cooke and Ken Fitzgerald were named Coaches of the Year.

On October 3, the Loyalist Lancers downed the St. Lawrence (K) Vikings with a score of 61-0. Tries were scored by Eric Early, Chad Grixti, Nic Imrie (2), Sean McMurtry, James Richards, Bobby Solmes, Zach Turpin, David White. Justin Voskamp also scored a try, 1 penalty kick and 4 converts, giving him 16 points.
The Team took another win last night, October 7, 27-5 against the Fleming (L) Auks. Bobby Solmes, Chad Baerwinkel, Corey Black, David White all had 1 try and Justin Voskamp had 1 try and 1 convert. The Lancers are now 4 and 0.
The Loyalist Men’s team opened up their regular season in fine fashion by defeating the visiting Fleming Auks by a final score of 30 – 22. Frank Bailey, Kody Duffett, Devin Metzger and David White all scored trys for the Lancers. First year Lancer Shane Christie had 10 points as he converted on 2 penalty kicks and 2 converts. David White & Ryan Fergusson were “Men of the Match”.

The Loyalist Men's Rugby team picked up a silver medal at the 2008-09 OCAA Division II Championships.
Both Sean McMurty and Chad Baerwinkel were named OCAA League All-Stars and the Loyalist coaching staff shared "Coach of the Year" honours with St. Lawrence (K).

The Men's Rugby team improved to 2 - 0 in league play as they defeated the visiting George Brown Huskies 22 - 0 on September 30th. The Lancers were led by Scott Jackson who scored 12 points for the team. Chad Baerwinkle scored his third try of the season with Corey Black adding the other Lancer try.

Loyalist is tied for first place in the Division 2 loop with the St. Lawrence (K) Vikings. The Vikings will travel to Loyalist on Thursday October 2 for a 5:00 PM match. The game will be preceded by a women's match between the two schools at 3:30 PM. Both games will take place on the upper field.
