LANA SLEZIC

Internationally acclaimed photographer and graduate of Loyalist's Photojournalism program in 2000, Lana Slezic is renowned for her ability to capture and tell stories through photography. Lana has recently been profiled on TVO's Snapshot: Part 3 for her riveting work, which captures women in war-torn Afghanistan. To watch it, please visit: http://ow.ly/bcvOZ. Lana's work has been published in Time magazine, National Geographic and Newsweek. Her book Forsaken was widely published and American Photo Magazine rated it as one of the Top Ten Photo Books of the Year in 2008. Lana travels broadly for her work and has lived in Canada, United Arab Emirates, Turkey, Afghanistan and India, where she currently resides with her husband and two children. LOYALIST COLLEGE INVITES ENTERPRISES TO NOMINATE A PROJECT FOR FUNDING
Committed to driving economic development in the Quinte region, Loyalist College has applied for funding from the Applied Research and Commercialization (ARC) Extension Initiative, through the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario). If successful, the College will disseminate the funding to local small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) for eligible projects, selected from an internal competitive application process.

LOYALIST JOINS COLLEGES ONTARIO NETWORK FOR INDUSTRY INNOVATION
Loyalist College is proud to announce that it has been granted membership into the Colleges Ontario Network for Industry Innovation (CONII), within the Network for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (NIE). The NIE Board of Directors approved the recommendation from its Member Selection Panel, comprised of external industry leaders, to include Loyalist on April 1st. In addition to funding for applied research activities, Loyalist is now also eligible for project funding to assist enterprises to build the success of their business.

At this month's Sustainability Committee meeting, Co-chair Kirk Fleming, announced that Loyalist College has been awarded a Certificate of Recognition from the High Performance New Construction (HPNC) Program. Specific to the new Skills Centre construction, the award is in recognition of Loyalist's commitment to energy-efficiency, and has a cash value of $16,690.

LOYALIST JOINS THE COMMUTER CHALLENGE

Loyalist College is excited to be part of the Commuter Challenge during the week of June 3rd. With over 900 Canadian workplaces already registered, the College is encouraging staff to look for healthier alternatives to get to work which can include walking, riding a bike, taking public transit or carpooling. The goal is to have the distinction of having the healthiest commuter population in the Quinte Region!

LOYALIST COLLEGE WINS FOUR STUDENT MEDIA AWARDS

Loyalist College is pleased to announce that it has won four awards at the 2012 Broadcast Educators Association of Canada (BEAC) Student Award Gala and Dinner on Saturday, May 26th in Ottawa. The videos produced by Loyalist students received first place in the categories of Drama, Comedy, Commercial or Promotion, and Short Corporate or Public Service Announcement. Loyalist students were recognized for their creativity and technical skills, cultivated through the College's unique three-year Television and New Media Production (TVNM) Advanced Diploma program.

LOYALIST BRINGS HOME GOLD AND TWO SILVERS FROM SKILLS COMPETITION 

Loyalist College is proud to announce that it has won gold and two silver medals at the Ontario Technological Skills Competition, which took place in Waterloo, Ontario, on Monday, April 30th and Tuesday, May 1st. The first place prize of $1,200 in Precision Machining went to Loyalist student Ranbir Ajji, who has completed his first year of the Manufacturing Engineering Technician program. A second place prize for Mechanical CAD was received by Vincent Ramsperger, who will graduate from the Manufacturing Engineering Technician program at Loyalist next week. In addition, a second place prize for Auto Service Technology was achieved by Joel Fallaise, who has completed his Level 2A in Loyalist's Automotive Apprenticeship program.

LOYALIST COLLEGE HOSTS ROTARY YOUTH LEADERSHIP AWARDS
Loyalist College was pleased to host the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) program from May 13th to May 18th. As part of the annual week-long event, 34 young women and men between the ages of 19 and 24 lived on campus and took part in a leadership training course designed to cultivate the respect of others and get to know themselves better. Sponsored by Rotary Clubs within District 7070 between Belleville and Toronto, participants were inspired and empowered to make a difference in their communities.

LOYALIST ACCEPTS GENEROUS DONATION FROM THE RETIRED TEACHERS OF ONTARIO
Loyalist College is honoured to accept a generous contribution of $11,652 from the Retired Teachers of Ontario, District 19, Hastings and Prince Edward District. With matching funds through the Ontario Trust for Student Support (OTSS) program, an endowment fund totaling over $23,000 will be established to provide financial assistance for Loyalist students.

LOYALIST POLICE FOUNDATIONS GRADS HONOURED 

We are pleased to report that Loyalist Police Foundations graduates,

Constable Brad Stitt and Constable Eric Shorey, were two of this year's

recipients of the Commendation of Valour Award.

Loyalist grads, Sargeant Brad Lentini, and Constable Pat Comeau,

were recognized for their exemplary service with the Police Department

for 20 years.
