A Loyalist graduate of the Television Broadcasting program in 1979, Ken Murphy is a media executive with more than three decades of leadership experience in Canada's television industry. On June 8th, he was presented with an Honorary Diploma in Media Studies, in appreciation of his memorable address to the Loyalist College graduating class of 2012. This academic tribute recognizes his extensive experience in the media industry, as well as his innovation and leadership in providing high quality programming to Canadians.

CAMPAIGN FOR LOYALIST COLLEGE

At the official launch of the Campaign for Loyalist College on June 5th, it was announced that $3.972 million has been raised to date to equip and complete the $16.6 million Sustainable Skills, Technology and Life Sciences Centre, and establish additional student awards. The $6 million Campaign fundraising goal includes $5 million to equip the Skills Centre with updated equipment and $1 million in endowment and awards in support of student financial assistance.

LOYALIST COLLEGE CELEBRATES 2012 GRADS

At the 45th Annual Convocation Ceremonies held on Thursday, June 7th and Friday, June 8th, 1,956 Loyalist students graduated with a diploma, advanced diploma, or certificate. During the ceremonies,121 award recipients were proudly announced. The awards were provided by private donors, businesses, industry associations, community organizations, and the Loyalist College Foundation.  read more....

Relay for Life 2012

LOYALIST PROUD TO HOST RELAY FOR LIFE

There was a great show of community support at the Relay for Life held at Loyalist on June 22nd and 23rd.  More than $230,000 was raised to help in the fight to eradicate cancer.  Some 1,500 luminaries were lit as members of 73 teams, including 188 survivors, circled the track throughout the night.

summer campsSUMMER CAMPS KICK OFF
There is still time to register youths for Camps for Kids & Teens and Loyalist Lancers Sports Camps. In the Camps for Kids & Teens, children 5 to 15 can take part in a wide selection of 40 week-long camps, most of which run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Sports Camps are designed to give childern 7 to 14 an introduction to five different sports, including basketball, volleyball, soccer, rugby and tennis.

LOYALIST APPROVES BUSINESS PLAN AND BALANCED BUDGET

The Loyalist Board of Governors approved the business plan and budget for the upcoming year at its meeting held June 14th. The plan calls for total operating revenues of $60.6 million and equivalent operating expenditures of $60.6 million. At the meeting Stuart Wright was re-elected Chair for 2012-13, for the term beginning September 1, 2012. Colin Hughes and Bruce McLeod were elected Vice-Chairs for the coming year, and Margaret Werkhoven will serve as Past Chair of the Board.

To date, Loyalist employees who are participating in the Commuter Challenge have:

  • Eliminated 968 km of driving
  • Prevented 168 kg of CO2 emissions
  • Saved 68 liters of fuel
  • Burned 13,216 calories
