Meet Jessica Dodge, Community and
Justice Services Worker Graduate

I graduated from the Community and Justice Services Worker program at Loyalist College in 2011. Now, I work for the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) of Leeds and Grenville where I am the branch service and support co-ordinator, and the community justice worker for the direct accountability program. I also provide public education and training support.

 

The CMHA is dedicated to the promotion of the mental health of all people, and to ensuring the provision of the best possible services for people with mental health problems. Since beginning employment with CMHA Leeds and Grenville, I have been trained in Mental Health First Aid for Adults Who Interact with Youth and Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training. Previously, I was trained in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention through my program at Loyalist College and First Aid/CPR. Click on Focus on Families to read more.

At the Ontario Community Newspapers Association 2012 Better Newspaper Competition Awards on March 22, Loyalist Print Journalism graduate David Lea was recognized with the Stephen Shaw Award for Reporter of the Year. The Canadian Army Veterans Juno Unit in conjunction with the Culinary Management program will be hosting a fundraising dinner in Club 213 on Saturday, May 4, for the Ride with the Pack Rally. Tickets are $35 and can be ordered through Andrew Whynott at rwp@rwp-rally.ca. The Ride with the Pack Rally is a motorcycle rally that raises funds for local charities, including The Children's Wish Foundation and Interval House. THE W. GARFIELD WESTON FELLOWSHIP FOUNDATION PROGRAM

At the Loyalist College Board of Governors meeting on March 14, the College and The W. Garfield Weston Foundation announced a three-year pilot project which will provide financial support for students entering Skilled Trades programs. The new W. Garfield Weston Fellowship Program will offer tuition and bursary incentives to help students train for and succeed in this growing labour market. A total of $240,000 will be available during the three-year program which starts this September. The eight-month Loyalist College Sports and Entertainment Sales and Marketing post-graduate program is intense, challenging and exciting. The first semester prepares students with an in-depth understanding of marketing and media objectives. Sales and marketing strategies and tactics are then polished through role-playing exercises. IronAccountantQUINTE CHRISTIAN WINS IRON ACCOUNTANT COMPETITION 

On March 5, Loyalist College hosted the 1st Annual Quinte Iron Accountant Competition and Accounting Profession Expo, organized by Loyalist Accounting students. Nine teams of aspiring business students participated in the event, representing six area high schools. Click on Loyalist to read more.

On Saturday, March 23, the College hosted another successful fundraiser in support of the Quinte Regional Food Sharing Shelter, a collective of nine area food banks. Guests at the event walked away with handcrafted bowls donated by local potters, filled with gourmet soup prepared by Chef John Schneeberger, Loyalist Culinary Management students, and Dinkels Restaurant in Belleville.
