LOYALIST COLLEGE PRACTICAL NURSING GRADUATES 100% SUCCESSFUL ON CPNRE

December 17, 2019

Belleville, Ontario, December 17, 2019 – Forty-four graduates of Loyalist College’s Practical Nursing program wrote the Canadian Practical Nurse Registration Examination (CPNRE) this year and were 100 percent successful on the first attempt.

“Loyalist continues to be the provincial leader with the most successful completion rates for first time writers on this exam since 2014,” said June MacDonald-Jenkins, Dean of Health, Human and Justice Studies at Loyalist College. “During the course of their studies, Practical Nursing students rigorously prepare for this exam, supported by caring faculty who facilitate their hands-on learning in the College’s interprofessional simulation centre. Our students then have the opportunity to apply everything they’ve learned on campus during an eight-week final clinical experience, demonstrating the skills required to become a Registered Practical Nurse. The success of our graduates is a testament to the program’s strength and to the level of commitment they have to their profession.”

The CPNRE is a computer-based examination conducted by the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO), the province’s regulating body for Registered Nurses (RNs), Registered Practical Nurses (RPNs) and Nurse Practitioners (NPs). The registration exam must be taken in order for a practical nurse to practise in the province. The exam is comprised of 165 to 170 objective multiple-choice questions that must be answered over a four-hour period.

Practical Nursing students learn to assess clients’ health throughout the lifespan, and to plan, implement and evaluate appropriate nursing care, in the classroom and beyond. They receive intensive personal instruction in small clinical and lab groups; participate in virtual simulation with realistic, interactive practice scenarios on the third floor of the renovated Northumberland Wing where Loyalist students collaborate on integrated programming, projects and applied research. This innovative experiential learning space houses interprofessional simulation centres, high-tech classroom environments and state-of-the-art student spaces.

Loyalist is now accepting January and September intake applications for its Practical Nursing program. For more information, visit loyalistcollege.com.
