Fall 2021 Orientation combines virtual and in-person activities to bring you everything you need to start College life! On this page you will find a schedule of events, registration links and helpful resources for two Orientation Welcome Weeks at Loyalist College. *Please note that the below schedules are subject to change. Week One Schedule

8 – 8:30 am: Welcome Booth

  • Visit the Virtual Welcome Booth to ask questions and chat live with Orientation leaders.

8:30 – 9 am: Official Welcome

  • Join us for an official welcome message to familiarize you with Orientation activities and introduce you to your Orientation leaders

9 – 9:30 am: Easy Money: the good, the bad and the ugly of credit cards

  • This session provides an introduction to credit cards. We start out exploring how they can be useful and safe, especially for online purchases. We then dive into how they work: how to apply for a card, how to manage purchases and payments, how interest is calculated, and what the minimum payment means. We will take a look at alternative sources of money such as Payday and Installment loans. Finally, we will end with an overview of the common personal credit pitfalls and traps that consumers that consumers can get caught in and how to avoid them.

9 – 10 am: Pre-Arrival Workshop for International Students

  • This session can help you navigate your first semester at Loyalist College and introduce you to the supports available to international students.

10 – 11 am: Student Networking

  • An opportunity to virtually meet and make lasting connections with fellow students.

11 am – 12 pm: Blackboard 101

  • Get comfortable with Blackboard, the College's learning management system. You will use to Blackboard to submit assignments, access course content, source documentation and receive grades.

1 – 2 pm: Campus Tour

  • Join us for a live virtual tour of the Belleville Campus.

2 – 3 pm: Wellness Session

  • Join our wellness team for an introductory session to all facets of self-care; from nutrition to physical and mental health.

  • 9: 30 – 10: 00 am: Where did all my money go? How to afford what you want

    • This session is all about taking control of your spending so that you have money for the things you want. Every day, we are bombarded with suggestions of things we absolutely need to purchase. As social media algorithms get more complex, we are increasingly targeted by advertisers, often without realizing it. In this session we examine different ways to make spending decisions and make better choices. We end the session by learning techniques for managing and tracking your spending, helping you to identify what will work best for you.

    10 – 11 am: Health Insurance Workshop for International Students

    11 am - 12 pm: AccessAbility Q & A

    • Join Student Success Services for an introduction session to AccessAbility Services offered at Loyalist College.

    12 - 1 pm: Campus Tour

    • Join us for a live virtual tour of the Belleville Campus.

    2 - 3 pm: Meditation Basics

    • Attend a live virtual meditation session. Unwind before a busy week of Orientation activities and classes!

    5 - 6 pm: Virtual Game/Activity: Riddles and Brain Teasers

    • Join Student Government for a virtual game of "Riddles and Brain Teasers." Meet Student Government members and your peers!

  • Take part in a special opportunity to have fun with your peers and learn more about College life! Each Bridge Day features a tour of campus, a bus tour of the surrounding Belleville area, and a free picnic lunch. Don’t wait to sign up – space is limited!

9 am – 10 am: Career Services

  • The world of work is undergoing dramatic changes before our eyes. Though geographical and industry-specific particularities still exist, the shift in today’s economy is global and applies to almost every industry sector. Find out what you need to do to attract employers to hire you in the ever-changing working world, learn tips for succeeding in virtual interviews and discover how to find jobs in today's market.

11 am – 12 pm: LGBTQ2S Meet and Greet

  • Join this virtual session hosted by Student Success Services to learn about the welcoming environment at Loyalist College and meet members of the LGBTQ2S community.

2 – 3 pm: Financial Aid & OSAP

  • Learn about the resources available for Loyalist College students seeking financial assistance to complete their education.

5 – 6 pm: Virtual Game/Activity: Student Success Bingo

  • Join Student Government for a virtual game of "Student Success Bingo." Meet Student Government members and your peers!

9:30 – 10:00 am: Understanding banking: How to keep more of your money for yourself

  • Retail banking is big business! The big five banks in Canada each report profits in the billions of dollars annually, yet for individual customers, personal banking services continue to be scaled back while our fees often increase. In this session, you will learn how to determine which services you really need, what banking choices are available to you, and how to ensure your money is safe. Finally, we end with exploring the tools available to minimize the amount of fees you are paying while still receiving the services you need.

10 – 11 am: Health Insurance Workshop for International Students

11 am – 12 pm: Counselling Services Information Session

  • This session hosted by Student Success Services will familiarize you with counselling resources offered by Loyalist College and how to access them.

1 – 2 pm: Study Tips

  • Join this session to learn practical strategies to improve your study habits and set yourself up for a successful semester.

5 – 6 pm: Virtual Game/Activity: The Price is Right

  • Join Student Government for a virtual game of "The Price is Right." Meet Student Government members and your peers!

  • Find out everything you need for a successful first semester at your program-specific Academic Orientation. Please monitor your Loyalist College email and myLoyalist for more information on your Academic Orientation.

4 – 5 pm: On-Campus Student Government Game: Human Chess

  • Participate an engaging actitvity of Human Chess run by Student Government. Please note space for this activity is limited, so register ahead to guarantee your spot!

5 – 6 pm: Beach Volleyball and Basketball

  • Join Campus Recreation for beach volleyball and basketball. Please note space for this activity is limited, so register ahead to guarantee your spot!

6 – 7 pm: Residence Activity: Outdoor Pilates

  • Need to get the body moving after a big move in weekend? Join us for an outdoor body movement activity in the grass that will be sure to make you feel ready for the week ahead.

  • This virtual session hosted by Student Success Services will provide you with information on Loyalist College’s Academic Integrity policy. You will also learn how to access tutoring services at the College.

12 – 1 pm: Campus Tour

2 – 3 pm: Meditation for Stress Management

  • Attend a live guided meditation session to help you unwind from a busy week of Orientation activities and classes!

4 – 5 pm: Kickball

  • Participate in a game of kickball with your peers. Space for this activity is limited, so register ahead to guarantee your spot!

4 – 6 pm: Meet & Greet

  • Get to know your peers at the campus meet and greet!

6 – 7 pm: Residence Activity: Indoor Paint Night

  • Try your hand at painting! First-time and experienced artists welcome.

4 – 5 pm: Picnic Games

6 – 7 pm: Residence Activity: Capture the Flag

  • We are kicking it old school with the campus's largest game of Capture the Flag! Join others to see if you can rule the field. Please note space for this activity is limited, so register ahead to guarantee your spot!
