So, how can you help?
This January, we’d like to get your help as we welcome new students from our region, across Ontario and beyond. They’ve chosen Loyalist and the Bay of Quinte region as their destination for a friendly, caring and inclusive student experience – both on campus and in our community. Our students are looking forward to meeting you and exploring the area – and we too are counting down the days until they arrive.
For students, College provides an exciting opportunity to meet new people and learn new things. It can also be a little overwhelming. In fact, most students take up to a semester to really settle in and feel comfortable. As such, Loyalist has created this one-stop resource for community members to get to know our students and to connect with them on things they need, such as accommodations and job opportunities.
According to a 2018 Emsi economic report, the 1,061 students who relocated to the region to attend Loyalist in 2016-17 spent $17.7M on groceries, rent accommodations, transportation, etc. A significant portion of these expenditures occurred in the region, generating $5M in new income in the economy during the analysis year, equivalent to supporting 156 jobs.
We are very grateful for the amazing support of our community and industry partners who have listed accommodations and provided part- and full-time employment opportunities for our students. From local employers, we know first-hand that our students are highly valued for their hard work ethic and dedication. In early January, students will again be looking for jobs to help pay for their education, as well as to strengthen their communication, customer service and social skills.
