Art and Design Foundation Program Hosts Juried Art Show

April 09, 2010

Students in the Loyalist College Art and Design Foundation program have submitted their artwork for consideration for inclusion in an upcoming art show to be held at the College on April 14th. Judges Kyle Topping and Chrissy Poitras from Spark Box Studio, and Nick Bambrough, graffiti artist and operator of Smart Productions, will select the pieces which will be displayed. The one-year certificate program provides students with the opportunity to explore a wide range of mediums, including painting, drawing, sculpting, photography, graphic design, technical illustration and 3D design.

“This show is extremely important as it gives students a sense of accomplishment and provides a celebration of the year’s work,” said Robert Kranendonk, coordinator of the program. “The program has unfolded way beyond our initial expectations. The students have embraced it since day one and now they have the opportunity to showcase their creations to the public.”

Kelly Taylor is one of the students who submitted entries to the juried show. A 2005 graduate of the Loyalist Photojournalism program, she has been operating a photography business in Toronto, kellytaylor.ca, and returned to Loyalist to explore the arts, refresh her skills and become more knowledgeable about creative career path options. “This program has impacted my vision and developed my awareness to a more creative style and market. The show is an essential part of our learning experience. Self-assessment was imperative as we organized which pieces of our work to submit. We are gaining exposure as to how an exhibition is put together and in a way it is celebratory. In a sense we are patting ourselves on the back for all of the hard work that we have done.”

The Art Show will be held in the Hub in the upper level of SAL in the Kente Building at Loyalist College from 6:30 until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 14th. The show will remain on display until Sunday, April 18th and guests will have the opportunity to purchase the displayed artwork. There is no admission charge and everyone is welcome to attend.
