Art and Design Students Curate Glassbox Showcase Exhibit

November 29, 2011

Loyalist College Art and Design Foundation students are curating Glassbox Showcase, an art exhibit featuring the works of local artists, in conjunction with the Quinte Arts Council and the John M. Parrott Gallery. The submissions, created by a diverse group of artists, range from traditional painting to welding sculpture. Members of the community are invited to attend the opening night of the exhibit on December 6 at 6:00 p.m. in Room 2L50 at Loyalist College. The exhibit will continue until December 9.

“The Quinte Arts Council and the John M. Parrott Gallery staff are pleased to offer guidance and support to the students of Loyalist College curating the upcoming Glassbox Showcase,” said Carol Feeney, Executive Director, Quinte Arts Council. “Sue Holland, Curator of the John M. Parrott Gallery, and I recently participated in a workshop to review the activities required and we are very excited that the students are undertaking this project. It gives them first-hand experience in all aspects of art exhibit organization and promotion. We are also very pleased that the artist members of the Quinte Arts Council have the opportunity to participate and feature their work.”

Eli Wilson is one of the students organizing the exhibit. “The Art and Design Foundation program has been incredibly helpful to me. The fields of work that involve artistic skill are broad. This is an opportunity for us to explore all aspects of promoting, processing, and showing every aspect of Glassbox Showcase. I would encourage any arts student to take this program to solidify their skills and learn about the work environment they are planning to enter.”

“The Glassbox Showcase is an excellent community partnership between the Quinte Arts Council, the John M. Parrott Gallery and Loyalist College,” said Loyalist President Maureen Piercy.  “It is also an innovative experiential tool for teaching Loyalist students to organize and curate an art exhibit. Robert Kranendonk, Coordinator of Loyalist’s Art and Design Foundation program, developed this creative learning opportunity for our students and we look forward to welcoming the community to the campus to view the exhibit.”
