Artist Ron Pickering and Loyalist Students Exhibit Art Show

March 10, 2009

The opening reception for Creative Watercolours, an art show by Ron Pickering and his Loyalist students, was held in the John M. Parrott Art Gallery at the Belleville Public Library on March 7.  The show and sale will continue until March 25.

“Ron Pickering has taught Continuing Education art classes at Loyalist College since 1997,” said Sharon Campbell, Continuing Education Program Coordinator. “As an award-winning artist who exhibits regularly, his experience has proven an invaluable resource to the hundreds of students he has taught during this time. Many of these students have commented on his patient and encouraging approach to instruction. His organization of this show on his students’ behalf is a perfect example of his supportive, mentoring manner.”

“While teaching watercolour classes at the College, I have had many talented students and enjoyed watching their skills develop,” commented Ron Pickering. “This show is a way to share their beautiful artwork with the community.  For many students this is the first opportunity they have had to show their work publicly and I think this is a very big step for those who are learning and enjoying the experience of painting. We have over 60 pieces in the show which means that the gallery is overflowing with their wonderful work.”

Ron Pickering is a Prince Edward County watercolour artist who is very active in the local artistic community, exhibiting at a wide range of venues throughout the area.  He is the recipient of many awards, including Artist of the Year 2002 at the annual Prince Edward County Fair art exhibition and the People’s Choice Award at Expressions 2006, Quinte Arts Council.
