September 14, 2012

Belleville, Ontario, September 13, 2012 – John Fitzpatrick, Manager Public Sector and Not-for-Profit Group, CIBC Commercial Banking, who recently completed his term as member of the Loyalist College Board of Governors, announced at the September Board meeting that CIBC is donating $30,000 to the Campaign for Loyalist College to fund student scholarships in the Skilled Trades.

“CIBC supports causes that matter to our clients, our employees and our communities,” said Mr. Fitzpatrick.  “With a community investment focus on Kids, Cures and Community, CIBC is providing access to education to help young people reach their potential.” He added that, “These scholarships, to be awarded through the School of Skilled Trades and Technology will ensure students in the region and South Eastern Ontario develop the skills and experience essential to meet the ongoing demands of business and industry.”

Stuart Wright, Chair of the Loyalist College Board of Governors, thanked Mr. Fitzpatrick. “This donation from CIBC, to be paid over five years, is outstanding, and will provide important support to our students, and help them achieve their career goals. The Campaign for Loyalist College is critical to the College’s development of excellent programs and graduates. We are very grateful to CIBC for this generous gift in support of our mission.”

The Campaign for Loyalist College officially launched on June 5, 2012 in support of the Sustainable Skills, Technology and Life Sciences Centre and student financial assistance. The $6 million Campaign fundraising goal includes $5 million to complete and equip the Skills Centre with advanced equipment, and $1 million for endowment and awards. Donations totaling $3.972 million were announced at that time.
