May 27, 2011

At the Annual Meeting of the Loyalist College Foundation on May 26, members learned that the endowment fund for student financial assistance had reached $7.227 million at March 31, 2011. During the past year, 212 awards with a total value of $80,753 from endowed funds were presented to Loyalist students.

Donations and event fundraising revenue during the year totaled $341,294, and enhanced matching funds through the provincial government’s Ontario Trust for Student Support (OTSS) program, brought the total to be added to the endowed fund, to $924,363. The Hon. Leona Dombrowsky, MPP, Prince Edward-Hastings presented a cheque for $583,069 to the College on behalf of the provincial government, at the College Foundation Annual General Meeting.

“The McGuinty government “Open Ontario” plan is turning the corner and strengthening our economy by providing resources to students pursuing post- secondary education,” commented MPP Dombrowsky. “A successful economy is sustained by a well educated, highly skilled workforce.”

“These results are outstanding,” said College President Maureen Piercy. “The endowed funds are designated specifically for student financial assistance and we are grateful to our generous community members and the provincial government for their ongoing support. The endowed funds will help many students access post-secondary education at Loyalist College.”
