ENGAGING YOUTH AT THE LOYALIST COLLEGE SKILLS COMPETITION

Belleville, Ontario, March 6, 2017 – More than 80 competitors from six school boards will compete in the Loyalist College Skills Competition on Tuesday, March 7. Award categories include Architectural Technology & Design, Automotive, Baking, Character Animation, Electrical, Esthetics, Individual Carpentry, Photography, Precision Machining, Two-Person Carpentry and Welding. Up to $14,000 in bursaries will be presented to the top competitors.

Participating District School Boards include Algonquin & Lakeshore Catholic; Durham; Hastings and Prince Edward; Kawartha Pine Ridge; Limestone; and Peterborough Victoria Northumberland and Clarington Catholic. 

As a society, we need skilled workers, particularly in emerging labour markets such as architecture and building sciences, automotive, electrical, welding and manufacturing. In Loyalist’s Bay of Quinte Skills Centre, a technology and trades training centre of choice for Southeastern Ontario, students learn to prepare for in-demand jobs in these fields.
