Fitness and Health Promotion Program Supports United Way

October 30, 2007

Students from the Fitness and Health Promotion (FHP) program at Loyalist College will team up with other community members to support the United Way at an event at the Quinte Mall on Friday, November 2nd.

Students and faculty from year 2 of the FHP program will supervise the cycle ergometer rides of a number of corporate teams who will cycle to raise funds for the United Way at the GoodLife Fitness Club. Professor Doug Lafreniere explained that, “They will screen participants and monitor their exercise responses and recovery to ensure a safe event takes place.”

The Loyalist team participating in this event will be led by the Chair of the Board of Governors, Bob Cottrell. “As a Board we are happy to be part of this event,” he said. “The United Way provides support for many individuals and organizations, and Loyalist College wants to support our community. The College team will be there on Friday to help with the corporate event, both as participants and as monitors!”

“We are very pleased that the College is able to support this special initiative for the United Way as part of Loyalist’s annual campaign,” added President Maureen Piercy. “We welcome the opportunity to participate in the Community Leaders for Healthy Communities event.”
