Graduates

June 11, 2010

Over 1,900 students graduated from Loyalist College at Convocation ceremonies held on June 10 and 11. Graduates received diplomas, certificates and applied degrees from programs in the Schools of Health and Human Studies, Biosciences, Business and Management Studies, Media Studies, Architecture and Building Sciences, Skills Training, Continuing Education and The Centre for Justice Studies.

During the three Convocation ceremonies, a total of $20,245 was presented through 118 awards. They were provided by private donors, business and industry, foundations and community organizations, and the Loyalist College Foundation.

This year, the Governor General’s Award was presented to graduating Business student Shelley Darrah. This prestigious award is presented to the student with the highest average in a two or three-year program at the College. Shelley graduated with an overall average of 97.7 percent. Her professors described her as, “possessing a rare combination of talents that are exhibited by high achievers. In addition to her strong academic standing she was an excellent mentor to her peers, and an outstanding team player who showed a strong goal orientation, all this while balancing the responsibilities of family and work.” Shelley plans to continue in the Accounting program to pursue a second diploma.

The Herbert Young Scholarship Award is presented each year for outstanding academic achievement and participation in College life. Mr. Young was the President of Loyalist College from 1970 until 1988. This year’s recipient was Ruth Forget in the Social Service Worker program.
