Graduates Honoured at 11th Annual Bancroft Campus Graduation

October 05, 2010

On September 30th friends and family gathered in celebration as Loyalist College congratulated 89 graduates from programs offered through the Bancroft Campus.  Certificates and diplomas were awarded in the fields of Personal Support Worker, Hospitality and in a range of eLab programs offered on-line or in classrooms in the on-campus e-learning labs.

Loyalist President Maureen Piercy welcomed the graduates. “It is my pleasure and privilege to congratulate you on your very significant personal achievement, the attainment of a post-secondary credential. You should feel very proud of the commitment and talent that your achievement represents. We certainly are.”

The guest speaker for the evening was Michael O’Keeffe, Administrator of Moira Place, a long-term care home in Tweed. Four Valedictorians addressed their peers: Charanjit Lubana from eLab Studies in Bancroft, Christine Graham from the Personal Support Worker certificate program in Bancroft, Cindy Ostrander from the Personal Support Worker certificate program in Belleville, and Lori Chamberlain a graduate of the Personal Support Worker certificate program in Tweed. In total 47 students graduated the Personal Support Worker program which was delivered at four locations: the campus in Bancroft and off-site in Belleville, Rama and Tweed.

Valedictorian Cindy Ostrander is working as a Personal Support Worker at Hastings Manor in Belleville. In her valedictorian address she thanked the families for their support. “I would especially like to thank our family members for being so understanding when we were studying late, getting together with our classmates for a group project, and your patience when we were distracted by upcoming exams. We appreciated the dinners you made and the laundry you did. Thank you for your part in helping us obtain our dreams.”

Charanjit Lubana, Valedictorian for eLab Studies, praised her learning experience at Loyalist College. “Learning is a lifelong process. It makes a huge difference in an individual’s life, and if the learning takes place in a great environment then the acquired knowledge and skills are extraordinary. The eLab environment at the Loyalist Bancroft Campus is great.”

Tom Malloy, Dean, Schools of Skills Training, Building Sciences, Access, Continuing Education and Bancroft Campus, commended the graduates for their hard work and perseverance. “The graduates’ determination and courage have enabled them to succeed and they should take great pride in their accomplishment. Our goal is to provide learning opportunities which are relevant to the workforce, enabling graduates to pursue careers in fields they find rewarding and challenging through a variety of flexible deliveries such as eLab.”
