June 04, 2008

Everyone Welcome to Attend Weekend Workshops at Loyalist College Alumni Association Homecoming – June 13 and 14, 2008

The Loyalist College Alumni Association would like to invite the community to join them for the exciting lineup of Saturday workshops planned as part of the upcoming Homecoming celebration on June 14th. Faculty and staff will be offering a selection of interesting and relevant subject sessions during the morning and afternoon.

On Saturday morning, workshop choices include Managing Your Career with Lyndsay Kerik, Employment Services. Participants will be introduced to strategies for successful career navigation. Loyalist Culinary professor and finalist in the 2008 TVO Best Lecturer Series, John Schneeberger, offers The Art of Baking Bread, a hands-on session on how to make an outstanding loaf of bread.

During the afternoon, Health and Wellness will be presented by Lorri Taylor, a professor in the College’s Health Sciences programs. Participants will explore the Wellness Continuum and identify their own wellness using tools provided by the instructor. Loyalist Professor Mary Jollimore, a sports journalist who has covered the Olympics since 1980, will present The Olympics: The Biggest Show on Earth. She will lead a discussion on what makes the Games the ultimate “reality TV” event.

“We are very pleased to be able to offer these exciting workshops during our Homecoming,” said Ivanka Franjkovic, Alumni & Development Officer. “Participants will be able to explore these topical subjects through lively discussion and practical application led by dynamic and knowledgeable presenters.”

Although there is no charge for the workshops, those planning to attend are asked to register in advance. Participants wishing to spend the day attending both morning and afternoon sessions can also register for the luncheon for $20.00. Registrations are requested by Tuesday, June 10 by calling 1-800-99ALUMNI or by visiting alumni@loyalistc.on.ca.

The Homecoming celebrations for Loyalist graduates will begin on Friday evening with a wine and cheese reception where registration packages will be handed out. In addition to the workshops, Saturday’s activities will include a luncheon with a Time Capsule ceremony and a Memorial Grove dedication, followed by a relaxing social evening with dinner and music.
