Loyalist College Announces Appointment of Vice-President Academic

July 15, 2010

Loyalist College
President Maureen Piercy is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. John
McMahon as Vice-President Academic, effective September 1, 2010.

 Mr. McMahon will join
Loyalist from Vanier College, where he is the Academic Dean (chief academic
officer), with responsibilities for the overall academic administration of the
college.   Vanier College is the second largest
English language college in Quebec, and one of the largest colleges in the
province.

 Mr. McMahon holds a
Master of Arts degree from Carleton University and a Diploma in Education from
McGill University, where he also completed the Advanced Management Course
through the McGill Executive Institute.  He has significant experience at the post-secondary and
secondary levels as a teacher, counselor and principal.

 While at Vanier College,
he provided key leadership in developing the college’s new five-year Strategic
Plan, and chaired the Academic Council.
Prior to joining Vanier, Mr. McMahon was seconded as Principal of a
primary/secondary school in Northern Quebec, serving First Nations students,
and also served for six years as the Director of Centennial College, a private
college in Montreal.

 “I am very excited about
the opportunity to join the senior management team at Loyalist College,” he said.
“Loyalist has an impressive reputation for quality and excellence in its
programs. I am honoured to become part of this success story and to continue to
build successful programs to meet the needs of our learners and our
communities.  My wife and I look
forward to moving to the community with our children, who are anxious to become
involved with sports teams and other activities.   This area is very appealing in its community spirit
and many opportunities for involvement.”

 In announcing the
appointment, Loyalist President Maureen Piercy commented that Mr. McMahon’s
many qualities and strengths impressed a broad based advisory committee in the
rigorous cross-Canada selection process.  “There are many challenges in post-secondary education today,”
she said.  “It is an extremely
dynamic environment, and I am very pleased to have John join the Loyalist
team.  His leadership skills and
passion for innovation, quality and student success will help ensure that the
College continues to meet our mission of providing a comprehensive range of
education and training to support the economic and social development of our
communities.”
