LOYALIST COLLEGE ATHLETES RECOGNIZED AT 48th ANNUAL ATHLETIC AWARDS BANQUET

Belleville, Ontario, March 18, 2016 — Loyalist College is pleased to recognize the individual and team successes of Loyalist Lancers at the 48th Annual Athletic Awards Banquet.

First-year Women’s Volleyball player Sara Piana Yafu and third-year Men’s Volleyball player Ben Hoftyzer received the Athlete of the Year award. They are recognized around the province and the country for their outstanding athletic abilities. Sara is a Women’s Volleyball team MVP, OCAA East Scoring Champion, OCAA 1st Team All Star, OCAA Overall Rookie of the Year and broke two OCAA records. Ben is a Men’s Volleyball team MVP, OCAA 1st Team All Star and number one in kills and points in OCAA.

Additional athletic award highlights include:

  • 50 Academic Award Winners (Average of 80% or higher)
  • 8 OCAA League All Stars
  • 4 CCAA Academic All Canadians – Stephanie Semark (WS), Stephanie Young (WS), Leticia Lopez (WBB), Ben Hoftyzer (MVB)
  • 1 CCAA All Canadian – Ashley Bickle (XC)
  • Academic Award of Excellence – Women’s Volleyball (81.7% team average)
