Loyalist College Automotive Centre Named In Honour of Peter F. Huff

November 18, 2013

Belleville, Ontario, November 15, 2013 – A ceremony marking the naming of the Automotive Centre at Loyalist College was held on November 12, in honour of the late Peter F. Huff, who studied Accounting at the College from 1982-83.

The sign was unveiled by Peter’s parents, Catharine and Lanny Huff.  The Automotive Shop is part of the new Sustainable Skills, Technology and Life Sciences Centre.

The Huff family has supported The Campaign for Loyalist College with a donation of $250,000, which will help equip the Automotive Centre and provide financial assistance to students from Prince Edward County.  An endowment fund has been established in Peter’s memory, creating financial awards for full-time students from Prince Edward County who are studying in the School of Business and Management Studies.

“We’re remembering Peter and we want to honour Peter,” his mother commented. “Peter loved cars, particularly Hemis, and this Automotive Shop is a perfect way to remember and honour him.”

The Campaign for Loyalist College officially launched in June 2012, in support of the Sustainable Skills, Technology and Life Sciences Centre. The $6 million Campaign fundraising goal includes $5 million to complete and equip the Skills Centre with advanced equipment, and $1 million for endowments and awards. To date, $5.5 million has been committed to the Campaign.

“We have had wonderful support from our community partners – partners like Catharine and Lanny Huff, who have provided generous support for an endowment fund to provide student financial assistance, and capital support for the Automotive Centre,” said Loyalist College President Maureen Piercy. “In recognition of their generosity, we are honoured to announce The Peter F. Huff Automotive Centre.”
