Loyalist College Board Elects Chair and Vice-Chairs

At the June 3rd meeting of the Loyalist College Board of Governors, Stuart Wright was elected Chair for 2010-11, with his term beginning September 1, 2010. Susan Scarborough and Colin Hughes were elected Vice-Chairs for the coming year, and Margaret Werkhoven will serve as Past Chair of the Board.

Stuart Wright was appointed to the Board in 2008.  During the past year, he served as Chair of the Finance, Corporate Services and Governance Committee, and has been a Director of the Loyalist College Foundation since 2008. He has more than 30 years experience in telecommunications with Bell Canada covering a wide range of activities, both domestically and internationally, in sales and marketing.  Mr. Wright worked in Saudi Arabia where he interfaced with the military and security agencies regarding their voice and data communication needs.  He spent two years in Malaysia where he established a joint venture between Telekom Malaysia and BCI designed to sell, develop and support computer applications for the telecom industry.    Mr. Wright is a member of the Rotary Club of Trenton and was recently presented with the Paul Harris Award for service.  He has served as a Director on the Board of the Air Force Museum of Canada and as a Trustee on its Foundation. 

Susan Scarborough was appointed in 2006, and was the Administrator of Trenton Memorial Lodge from 1996-2009.  Mrs. Scarborough has served as Chair of the Academic, Student Affairs and Advocacy Committee of the Board for the past three years, and has also been a Director of the Loyalist College Foundation since 2006.  She has administrative experience with the Kawartha Pine Ridge Board of Education, and was self-employed for ten years, having owned and operated a resort business.  From 1998 to 2006 she served as a member on the Board of the Quinte Health Care Corporation and served as Chair of the Board as well as Chair of the Governance and Executive Committee.  She was a member of the Trenton Memorial Hospital Board from 1990 to 1998.  Through her many years of service on community boards and committees, she has been very active in fundraising initiatives. She earned a Secretarial Science diploma from Ryerson in 1965 and holds a Basic Accounting Certificate from Loyalist College.

Colin Hughes was appointed to the Board in 2008.  He has 28 years experience as a general machinist and tool room machinist with Invar Manufacturing and has extensive experience training apprentices.  As a certified Health and Safety member, Mr. Hughes has co-chaired Invar’s Health and Safety Committee for 21 years, developing safety training programs, and teaching Health and Safety policies to employees.  He was a volunteer firefighter for the City of Quinte West for ten years where he used his experience and knowledge as a health and safety trainer when training new recruits.

Chairs of the Standing Committees of the Board were also elected for the coming year.  Tamara Kleinschmidt was elected as Chair of the Finance, Corporate Services and Governance Committee, and Scott Williams was elected as Chair of the Academic, Student Affairs and Advocacy Committee.
