Loyalist College Board Elects Chair and Vice-Chairs

At the June 2nd meeting of the Loyalist College Board of Governors, Stuart Wright was re-elected Chair for 2011-12, for the term beginning September 1, 2011. Susan Scarborough and Colin Hughes were also re-elected Vice-Chairs for the coming year, and Margaret Werkhoven will serve as Past Chair of the Board.

Stuart Wright was appointed to the Board in 2008. Prior to his election as Chair of the Board of Governors, he served as Chair of the Finance, Corporate Services and Governance Committee, and was a member of the Executive Committee and the Audit Committee.  He has been a Director of the Loyalist College Foundation since 2008. Mr. Wright has more than 30 years experience in telecommunications with Bell Canada covering a wide range of activities, both domestically and internationally, in sales and marketing.  He worked in Saudi Arabia seconded to Saudi Telecoms where he interfaced with the military and security agencies regarding their voice and data communication needs and later for Bell Canada International (BCI) in a new business development role in the Gulf region of the Middle East.  He then spent two years in Malaysia where he established a joint venture between Telekom Malaysia and BCI designed to sell, develop and support computer applications for the telecom industry before returning to Canada to take up a senior role at Bell.  Mr. Wright is a member of the Rotary Club of Quinte Sunrise, and is a Paul Harris Fellow.  He has served as a Director on the Board of the Air Force Museum of Canada and as a Trustee on its Foundation. 

Colin Hughes was appointed to the Board in 2008.  He has served as Audit Committee Chair and Vice-Chair to the Board of Governors of Loyalist College.  He is employed at R.C. Industrial Services Napanee as General Machinist/Health and Safety Coordinator, with 30 years experience in this field.  As a Certified Health and Safety Representative Mr. Hughes has co-chaired Health and Safety Committees for over 21 years, developing safety training programs, and teaching Health and Safety awareness to employees.  He served as a volunteer firefighter for the City of Quinte West for ten years where his experience and knowledge as a health and safety professional was utilized to train new recruits.

Susan Scarborough was appointed in 2006, and was the Administrator of Trenton Memorial Lodge from 1996-2009.  Mrs. Scarborough has served as Vice-Chair of the Board and as Chair of the Academic, Student Affairs and Advocacy Committee, and has been a Director of the Loyalist College Foundation since 2006.  She has administrative experience with the Kawartha Pine Ridge Board of Education, and was self-employed for ten years, having owned and operated a resort business.  From 1998 to 2006 she was a member on the Board of the Quinte Health Care Corporation and served as Chair of the Board as well as Chair of the Governance and Executive Committee.  She was a member of the Trenton Memorial Hospital Board from 1990 to 1998.  Through her many years of service on community boards and committees, she has been very active in fundraising initiatives. 

Chairs of the Standing Committees of the Board were also elected for the coming year.  Tamara Kleinschmidt was re-elected as Chair of the Finance, Corporate Services and Governance Committee, and Scott Williams was re-elected as Chair of the Academic, Student Affairs and Advocacy Committee.
