May 31, 2010

At the Annual Meeting of The Loyalist College Foundation held May 27th, Beverley Townsend was elected as Chair, and Bernie Ouellet was elected as Vice-Chair for the coming year.

Kristin Crowe, Catharine Huff, and Natalie Bohnen-Twiddy were elected as community representatives on the Board and join Directors Rick Belanger, Donna Gowthorpe, Ross McDougall, Mark Rashotte, Mark Rollins, and John Sherratt.  Pat Dockrill, Susan Scarborough and Stuart Wright represent the College Board of Governors as Directors, along with the Board Chair. Retiring Director and past Foundation Board Chair June Surgey was thanked for her contributions over the past number of years and was appointed as an Honorary Director of the Foundation in recognition of her outstanding service.  Retiring Directors Mark Hanley, Kay Manderville, and Steve Stumpacher were also recognized for their service to the Foundation Board.

Ex-officio Directors include College President, Maureen Piercy; Vice-President Corporate Services & Chief Financial Officer, Allan Ross; and Executive Director of College Advancement & External Relations, Dianne Spencer.

Foundation members learned that the endowment fund for bursaries for Loyalist College students totaled $6,103,521 at March 31, 2010.  In 2009-10, 278 awards with a total value of $149,487 were presented from endowed funds.

During the year, $240,412 was received through donations to the College, and $416,075 in enhanced matching funds from the provincial government’s Ontario Trust for Student Support (OTSS) program was presented to the College by the Hon. Leona Dombrowsky, MPP, Prince Edward-Hastings. A total of $656,487 was presented to the Foundation from the College to become part of the endowment fund for student bursaries.

“These results are excellent,” said College President, Maureen Piercy.  “The College is very appreciative of the government’s matching opportunity through the Ontario Trust for Student Support, and we are pleased that the generosity of individuals and organizations has helped us to maximize this funding for our students.  The endowed funds are designated solely for financial assistance, and will help many students complete their post-secondary education at Loyalist College.”

“On behalf of the Directors of the Foundation, I want to thank everyone who has provided support to Loyalist College and Loyalist students during the past year,” said Foundation Chair Beverley Townsend. “This generosity will have a lasting impact on many individuals throughout the future.”
