Loyalist College Hosts Chinese Delegation

August 19, 2009

Chinese Delegation and George Burton, Loyalist College Vice-President Enrolment Management and Student Services, visit Belleville City Hall.

A delegation of
21 teachers from Xuzhou College of Industrial Technology, People’s
Republic of China visited Loyalist College from August 5th to 17th. The purpose of the visit was to
provide the Chinese faculty with exposure to Canadian teaching, course design and delivery methodologies.

 In addition to
the extensive training program, the College organized activities and
opportunities to enhance the delegates’ visit to Canada. Tours of
Belleville City Hall and a local manufacturing plant took place, and
they also had the opportunity to share a cultural celebration at a
traditional Pow Wow with The Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte. The guests
were taken to Algonquin National Park and following a day of exploring
the natural habitat, they experienced a Canadian campfire dinner at the
cottage of Catherine O’Rourke, Loyalist’s Director of Student Success.

“We feel from
our heart that all of the citizens in Belleville are friendly,” said
Mr. Xi Yuan dong, head of the delegation. “Loyalist College prepared
well for this summer training. All of our teachers benefit a lot from
this kind of education exchange. We sincerely appreciate that Loyalist
managed to supply convenience in every aspect.”

George Burton,
Vice-President Enrolment Management and Student Services, said that
Loyalist hopes to make this an annual event. “The delegation is a part
of Loyalist College’s ongoing international education programs. The
success of this initiative encourages us to look to future delegations
and the possibility of Loyalist faculty visiting the People’s Republic
of China as part of a reciprocal agreement.”
