LOYALIST COLLEGE INVESTS $1,180,000 IN FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE FOR SEPTEMBER-START STUDENTS

Belleville, Ontario, June 16, 2021 – Loyalist College is investing $1,180,000 in awards, bursaries and scholarships to help relieve student financial burdens and remove barriers to education for Fall 2021. Loyalist College Student Government, on behalf of its student members, has contributed $155,000 for needs-based financial assistance.

“Thank you to Loyalist College Student Government for making such a generous contribution to our dedicated community of learners,” said Dr. Ann Marie Vaughan, Loyalist College President and CEO. “Many of our students pursue postsecondary education because they see value in personally investing in themselves and their future. There has never been a better time for our students to follow their entrepreneurial curiosities, train for in-demand careers, and prepare for a critical role in revitalizing our economy in a post-pandemic world.”

Funds donated by Loyalist College Student Government will help 155 qualified returning domestic and international students pay for their Loyalist College education with a $500 bursary toward the cost of tuition. Student Government funds will also provide 155 qualified new domestic and international students with a $500 bursary.

“Student Government is pleased to once again support our fellow students financially through needs-based bursaries,” said Jeet Patel, Loyalist College Student Government President. “As students ourselves, we know the financial burden of attending college during the COVID-19 pandemic. We want to help reduce financial barriers for Loyalist College students to ensure they can obtain the skills they need to succeed in their future careers.”

After accepting an offer of admission at ontariocolleges.ca, new students at Loyalist College’s Belleville campus have until June 25 to submit an application form for the Student Government Needs-Based Bursary. Returning students at Loyalist College’s Belleville campus can access the bursary application through the myLoyalist portal starting August 23, with a deadline to apply by September 17 at 12 pm.

The following bursaries and scholarships are available to Fall 2021 Belleville campus students:

$2,000 Residence Bursary and $100 New Entrant Bursary
Loyalist College has allocated $200,000 for a Residence Bursary which will provide 100 students with $2,000 toward on-campus housing. Those selected will also receive a $100 New Entrant Bursary. The application closes August 15.

$1,000 Entrance Scholarship
Sixty domestic high school students with a GPA of 87% or higher who accepted their offer of admission to Loyalist College as of May 1 will be receiving a $1,000 Entrance Scholarship.

$500 Entrance Bursaries
Enrolment Services has allocated 100 $500 Entrance Bursaries for students who are beginning their journey at Loyalist College in September 2021. This bursary is based on financial need. The application deadline is June 18.

International Student $1,500 Scholarship and $3,000 Tuition Bursary
A $1,500 scholarship will be awarded to registered international students who meet the criteria and are in class on Day 10 for Fall and Winter semesters (Belleville campus). The College also has a $3,000 tuition bursary being awarded to Fall 2021 semester students enrolled in Computer Systems Technician; Fitness and Health Promotion; Social Service Worker; Global Business Management; Cyber Security; Financial Technology; Human Resources Management; Project Management; and Supply Chain Management – Global Logistics at the College’s Belleville campus.
