Loyalist College Offers Horticultural Technician Apprenticeship Program

February 10, 2011

People with an interest in horticulture can pursue their career through apprenticeship training offered at Loyalist College. The Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities (MTCU) has recently granted Loyalist College approval to deliver the Horticulture Technician Apprenticeship in-class training.

Fourteen registered Horticultural Technician Apprentices are attending the first-ever local in-class apprenticeship training opportunity. Loyalist College is delivering the Level 1 training at Connon Nurseries in Bayside. The in-class training consists of theory and practical classes taught by leading horticultural experts. The apprentices will return to their employers for the busy spring season to continue their on-the-job apprenticeship training. The Horticultural Technician Apprenticeship requires several years of on-the-job training and two levels of in-class training to qualify to challenge the certification examination. The Horticultural Technician Certificate of Qualification is a Red Seal (National) certification.
