Loyalist College Presents 262 Students With Awards at Annual Ceremony

November 18, 2010

November 17th was an evening of celebration for many students at Loyalist College as 262 awards were presented at the College’s annual Undergraduate Awards Ceremony.  The awards, totaling $128,300, were presented from The Loyalist College Foundation and from individual donors, businesses and community organizations.  Aboriginal Post-Secondary Education and Training Bursaries, and First Generation Bursaries were provided through provincial government funding.

New awards presented at this year’s ceremony included: The Bob McKnight Memorial Bursary (Rotary Club of Belleville); Colio Estate Winery Bursary; John & Jean Naumann Memorial Bursary; Joy Miller Memorial Nursing Award; McCurdy Bursary; Quinte Veterans’ Association Bursary; and the Waste Management of Canada Corporation Award.

Recipients were congratulated by Chair of the Board of Governors, Stuart Wright, and Foundation Board Chair, Beverley Townsend, as well as the College President, who welcomed attendees to a wonderful evening of recognition for deserving students.

Speaking to an auditorium filled with students and their family and friends, donors, and College faculty and staff, President Maureen Piercy commented that the evening is about more than financial support.  “It is about the important role each and every one of you plays in the network of generosity, encouragement, and support which allows our students to achieve their goals,” she said. “Just as important are the encouragement, community recognition, and motivation these awards provide for our students.”

In closing the evening’s presentations, John McMahon, Vice-President Academic, congratulated all award recipients, and extended a thank you to the award donors. “This has been a special evening of celebration for the College, and we appreciate your support,” he said.
