Loyalist College Proud Recipient of Plainfield Community Homes Community Partner of the Year Award

August 19, 2010

College President Maureen Piercy was proud to accept, on behalf of Loyalist College, the Community Partner of the Year Award presented by Plainfield Community Homes at its annual general meeting (AGM) in June. Plainfield Community Homes is a non-profit organization that provides a range of services and supports to adults and children with developmental disabilities. The organization is committed to supporting people with disabilities through the promotion of their own individual empowerment and autonomy over their own lives.

“The theme of this year’s AGM, Community Life — From Presence to Contribution, makes Loyalist College a most worthy recipient of our Community Partner of the Year award,” said John B. Klassen, Executive Director of Plainfield Community Homes. “Several Loyalist employees have been instrumental in providing some wonderful opportunities for people we support. The vision and belief shown by these staff toward Plainfield Community Homes and those whom we support, has given several people a unique opportunity to be part of college life in a way that has been meaningful not only to them, but also to the staff and students of Loyalist College.”

In her remarks, Sharon Wright, Manager of Community Development and Volunteer Services with Plainfield Community Homes, recognized Loyalist’s contributions to several partnerships that “have strengthened people’s level of skill, their social network, their confidence and respect while, at the same time, providing excellent educational opportunities.”

“I am honoured to receive this award on behalf of Loyalist,” said President Maureen Piercy. “We are proud of the individuals from the College who believe in our community as a whole and extend opportunities which are inclusive to all. Our relationship with Plainfield Community Homes has many dimensions, each valued and respected and we look forward to continuing to form partnerships that will enrich our community.”
