LOYALIST COLLEGE RECOGNIZED WITH NATIONAL AWARDS

June 07, 2018

Belleville, Ontario, June 7, 2018 – At the Canadian Council for Advancement of Education (CCAE) National Conference in Halifax on June 6, Loyalist College received a bronze Prix d’Excellence Award in the ‘Best Use of Multi-Media’ category. Loyalist College’s winning #Amazing50 Video Series comprises 24 Loyalist graduate videos, filmed in seven provinces and one territory. Produced and distributed as part of Loyalist’s 50th Anniversary celebrations in 2017, which coincided with the 150th Anniversary of Canada, the College’s multi-media campaign brings focus to the success of graduates living not only in the Bay of Quinte region, but in various parts of Canada. The award recognizes one-time initiatives produced by post-secondary institutions for fundraising, student recruitment, news and information, or other general promotional purposes, over a period of time. In addition, two of the three CCAE Distinguished Service Awards presented at the evening awards event recognized members of the Loyalist family.

Dianne Spencer, Executive Director of College Advancement & External Relations at Loyalist, was presented with the 2018 CCAE Outstanding Achievement Award. It recognizes a CCAE member who has made extraordinary contributions to the field of educational advancement over a number of years. The recipient is recognized both for exemplifying the highest ideals of the advancement profession and for dedicated mentoring of others in the field. Mrs. Spencer, who is retiring from Loyalist this summer, has worked at the College since 1987 in various roles that have included teaching, Director of Community Affairs and Special Projects, and Executive Director of College Advancement & External Relations. She served as Interim President of Loyalist following the retirement of Maureen Piercy in August 2016 until November 2016, when President Ann Marie Vaughan was appointed. As Executive Director, Mrs. Spencer is responsible for fundraising, awards, alumni activities, marketing, communications, recruitment and career services as well as media, government and community relations. A founding director of The Loyalist College Foundation, Dianne has served as an ex officio director and officer since it was established in 1995. Since then, the Foundation endowment fund for student financial assistance has grown to $11 million.

During the conference, Dianne co-presented a professional learning session on The W. Garfield Weston Foundation Fellowship – a pilot program developed at Loyalist, designed to increase interest and participation in careers in skilled trades. Since 2013, it has since grown to support more than 150 students entering skilled trades programs at the College. The Foundation is extending the program to selected colleges across Canada, and the program will be known as The Weston Family Scholarship program supporting students in Skilled Trades.

Christine Richard, a Loyalist Public Relations graduate, 2009, and Customs and Immigration graduate, 2008, was presented with the 2018 CCAE Rising Star Award and a $2,000 Presidents’ Scholarship to support her professional development next year. The Rising Star Award recognizes a professional with three to five years’ experience in educational advancement who demonstrates achievements, accomplishments, early success and commitment in the field. As Brock University’s first Alumni Officer, Student and Alumni Engagement, Ms. Richard is making a mark in alumni relations and imaginative event planning. Over the past four years, she has grown the Grad Send-Off from 350 in attendance to 1,200, representing some 30 percent of the graduating class. She is praised as a dedicated advancement officer who “commits her time, talents and efforts into building the reputation of Brock University.”
