LOYALIST COLLEGE STUDENT JOSH ROBERTS RECEIVES CICAN’S NATIONAL LEADERSHIP EXCELLENCE AWARD

April 27, 2021

Belleville, Ontario, April 27, 2021 – Loyalist College General Arts & Science student Josh Roberts is the recipient of Colleges and Institutes Canada’s (CICan) Leadership Excellence Award for Students. Josh was honoured during the CICan 2021 Virtual CONNECTION Conference yesterday at an Awards of Excellence celebration.

The Leadership Excellence Award for Students recognizes those who have made an exceptional contribution within their institution and the communities it serves. Each year the CICan selection committee chooses three students from institutions across the country for Gold, Silver and Bronze categories. Leadership Excellence Awards are also given to acknowledge exceptional College staff, faculty, programs, research initiatives, Indigenous education and more.

“When I began my journey as President and CEO of Loyalist College in 2016, Josh was one of the first students I met and I immediately knew he had the makings of a great leader,” said Dr. Ann Marie Vaughan. “Over the past five years, I have watched Josh excel academically; motivate his teammates through exceptional wins and heartbreaking losses as Captain of the Men’s Varsity Volleyball team and become an institutional mentor to students in every corner of the College. It truly is remarkable when one student can connect with so many people, across diverse disciplines, to drive home our core values and mission. It’s wonderful to see Josh’s contributions to Loyalist College acknowledged by CICan’s selection committee.”

A talented athlete and graduate of the College’s Fitness & Health Promotion and Public Relations – Event Management programs, Josh is a highly engaged student leader and force of positivity. Since beginning his education at the College in 2016, Josh embraced the responsibility of mentoring his peers through roles such as Class Leader and Valedictorian. Consistently going above and beyond to contribute to student life and the College community, Josh is an ambassador at athletic events; has served as Student Orientation Chair; volunteered during Open House; and works as a Recruitment Officer at Loyalist College. His warmth and willingness to help others resonates with the College’s core values and contributes to its close-knit community.

“It’s an honour to receive CICan’s Bronze Leadership Excellence Award for Students,” said Roberts. “My journey at Loyalist College has taught me about leadership, hard work and perseverance, but more importantly, it has given me the opportunity to be a part of a supportive and caring community of teammates, coaches, faculty, staff and students. I am so proud to be a part of the Loyalist College family.”
